Stuff the Bus
This month students from the Jersey Shore Future Business Leaders of America participated in the weSHOREcare project, and were able to “stuff the bus” with food donations.

“Incredible and unprecedented are words of description for what the students, staff, and especially the leaders and students of the Future Business Leaders of America did in the past three weeks. This is the sixth year that classes in the Jersey Shore Area School District, and later the FBLA, accomplished as they organized food drives for the New Love Center. Each year over the past six years the numbers keep growing and so on Friday afternoon when they arrived I wasn’t sure what to expect and they surprised us with nearly 17,000 items of food. I just got a call that a bus was coming then learned two buses were coming. This along with support and donations from area businesses will assure that “no one goes hungry.” Pastor Kerry Aucker

The students gathered 27,280 pounds of food! Here are some images from the “Stuff The Bus” event and the wonderful Jersey Shore students who are making an impact in their community!

Throughout the month of November, 162 volunteers made a difference at The New Love Center, giving 565 hours of their time. Our volunteers are the heart of our ministry here at TNLC and we cannot thank each and every one of them enough for their time, hard work, and compassion. It has now been six months of dine-in only (Monday-Friday). In November, we served an average of 32 meals a day, which is an increase of 4 meals over October.

Rachel Miles, our head cook, continues to serve delicious, hot and nutritious meals. She served a full Thanksgiving meal, turkey and all the trimmings, to our clients. While the Cafe was closed on Thanksgiving Day, all clients were invited to Trinity UMC for their community dinner.

TNLC has been blessed to have Christine McDonnell as our kitchen/custodial help Monday to Wednesday. She does so well interacting with our clients and praying with them when needed. We also welcomed Sarah Kelchner who provides support Thursday and Friday at the Cafe and throughout the week at the Annex. She has been fantastic since beginning on November 4th.

Please note that the Cafe will be closed on December 24. On December 23, we will serve a hot meal and clients will receive a take-home meal for the 24th.

Our Food Pantry had a very busy month in November, serving 1,086 individuals, including 205 new faces for the first time. We welcome sharing our ministry with these individuals and thank our 119 dedicated volunteers who donated 380 hours!

In addition to our Food Pantry, we distributed 93 Senior Boxes and 148 households received MilitaryShare boxes at the American Legion. Three people picked up PB&J packs at our November 8 distribution day. Our Backpack Program gave out 403 backpacks to help those students of the Jersey Shore Area School District that need it. Our Pop-Up Pantries In Renovo and Lock Haven continues to connect people to our food pantry ministry. In Renovo, 128 individuals received food and in Lock Haven, another 224 individuals were served.

A total of 30,131 lbs of food was donated in November from our partner organizations and we received 27,280 pounds from churches, organizations, and individuals, including “Stuff the Bus”.

The Fresh Food Farmacy program continues to grow leaps and bounds, helping individuals and their families living with Type 2 Diabetes receive fresh and healthy food to support a better diet. In November, 49 households were enrolled in the program, serving a total of 105 individuals. We are currently up to six distribution days a month.

This innovative program, run out of the Henry Street Annex, allows our FFF clients to shop around for the items they want, choosing from a wide variety of options provided through our partnership with Geisinger.

As a child I can still relive the memories of opening some of those special gifts on
Christmas Day. The joy and delight could barely be contained. They were given
to me as an expression of love. At the Jersey Shore Love Center we are motivated
by love as well as we give to others. Some of the stories we hear about how
grateful the children are for the Backpack Program is so rewarding. It may not be
a large gift for them but joy and delight can be seen. Your support enables this
program to continue, thank you for your gifts and may you have a joyous
Christmas season.
