Hi all!

Here's the last email of 2021! I can’t believe this year is almost done!
At the moment I’m finished with work and taking care of some things regarding my application to a master degree. These past weeks I was mostly studying for an IELTS exam and feeling a bit nervous about it. (There’s an exercise that’s just interpreting graphs which I honestly think I would fail even if the text was in Portuguese.)

Before signing up for the exam I went to a language school where they offered to test my English just then and there, in order to check my level. One part of the examination was to write a text where I had to pick three items that represent our time and culture to be put inside a time capsule and opened 100 years in the future. I really enjoyed thinking and writing about this and wanted to share the idea I had during the test. My three items would be:

A seed,
a secret,
and a song.

The seed could be a way to preserve a plant, since the environment and landscapes will change in the future. The secret would be a letter written by someone picked at random. This person knows they won't be around when the time capsule is reopened and they can write freely about anything they want without fear of judgment. And, finally, a musician would be asked to make a song that they believe sounds like what people in 100 years will be listening to. I think our ideas of what is futuristic can say a lot about our present, and it will be a nice attempt to bridge the hundred year gap and greet the time capsule recipients.

I got very excited with these ideas and now I want to make them for real eheheh. But I guess for the time being I need to put the whole idea in a time capsule too, because I need to focus on taking care of all the application paperwork.

Meanwhile, have you seen these new coffee themed prints in the shop? I made them to be a good match to the Guide for Ordering Coffee in Portugal.

And finally, two new projects I participated in:

Queer Power (EN)
I made a very short story for this comics anthology published by Kus.

Contraconto (PT)
It used to be a radio show, and now it's jumping to the theatre stage and on to a book.
There were two presentations this month but I believe they will do more next year, meanwhile you can relisten to the radio show here.
Thank you for reading this very wordy email all the way to the end! I wanted to send you something Christmas-themed and found this chaotic interview/photoshoot with the cast of The Mighty Boosh, but maybe this is only enjoyable if you know the TV series. In case you haven't seen it, there you go, take it as a suggestion of something to watch during the holidays :-)

Hope you have good time, and see you next year!

Beijinho,
Joana
