Welcoming the 2022 WA Committee

On Sunday, November 21st, Wicklow Archers met for our annual AGM, to discuss plans for the coming year and to elect several new committee and subcommittee roles before heading out for the penultimate Field League shoot.
We also took a moment to celebrate the club's founding member, Rohan O'Duill, without whom Wicklow Archers wouldn't exist, and whose enthusiasm for archery has inspired countless new archers over the years, and helped so many of us to raise our game.

Your 2022 committees
These roles are essential to the running of the club in every aspect from ensuring we have a safe venue, to arranging major competitions; as the largest archery club in Ireland this is no easy feat.
So, we’d like to say a massive thank you to the outgoing committees who have seen the club through a difficult time and to welcome the new 2021/2022 committee into their roles.
2022 management committee
- President: Tom Fox (taking over from Tony Murphy)
- Secretary: Gerry Edwards
- Treasurer: Matthew Craig
- Athlete Protection Officer: Eoin Wylie (taking over from Ruairi O’Sullivan)
- Public Relations Officer: Jane Ward (taking over from Jon Pierce)
2022 subcommittee
- Designated Person: Alan Callister
- Health & Safety Officer: David Ferrie (taking over from Gerry Edwards)
- Coaching Coordinator/Webmaster: Mark Cunningham (taking over from Jane Ward as Coaching Coordinator)
- Social Officer: Jon Pierce
- Equipment and Purchasing Officer: Tony Murphy (taking over from Tom Fox)
- Vetting Officer/Membership Officer: Steven Kirwan
One notable change is that the Competitions Coordinator position was not filled for next year. This role is going to be split across a dedicated competitions subcommittee, responsible for designing courses and planning competitions. This includes a Competitions Administrator whose role will be to keep a record of score sheets, lodge paperwork for events, and work alongside the competitions subcommittee group. If you’re interested in any of these roles, feel free to reach out to anyone listed above.

Thank you to our outgoing president
We’d like to say a special thank you to Tony Murphy who led the club through a turbulent 2 years. Under his presidency the club has grown, despite truly difficult circumstances and as a coach he has been (and continues to be) instrumental in building a strong community of new archers. So from all of us: Thank you, Tony!

What’s on the horizon?
As we look forward to 2022, there are more good things to come for Wicklow Archers.
Intermediate coaching
Two of our senior recurve archers have kindly agreed to run an intermediate coaching session for some of our newer archers (and the not-so-new ones who want a refresher).
So if you’re curious about clickers, or longing to start using a long rod but you’re not sure how to take the next steps, this course is definitely for you. We’ll send on more details as soon as they’re available.
Meadow range
We’re looking to reopen our meadow range so newer and senior archers can shoot together more easily. This should also pave the way for the triumphant return of our Target League.
We may need some helpers towards the end of December to set this up, so keep an eye on your email and on Facebook for details. It’s a great way to shake off the cobwebs that will inevitably form between Christmas and New Year.
