Whether that is the extra care you take with your patient, the vulnerability you model for your learner, the task you cover for your colleague, the data you collect and analyze, the discovery you make, or the logistics you coordinate - your time, energy, and commitment make us the University of Colorado Division of General Internal Medicine. We are better together and we are better because of you.

Congratulations to Judy Regensteiner, PhD for being recognized as a CU Distinguished Professor. Dr. Regensteiner was honored for her accomplishments as a "scholar, director and mentor who has pioneered the field of women's health issues and brought CU Anschutz to the forefront of these issues." She was one of eleven CU Professors to join this elite group this year. To read more about CU Distinguished Professors click here.
Congratulation to Dr. Katie Morrison who received a 2021 Department of Medicine Faculty Innovator Award. Dr. Morrison was recognized for her work as the Director of the WellDOM Committee. Dr. Morrison received the award earlier this month at the DOM Faculty Recognition Awards Event. Also during this event, the 2021 Rising Stars were honored. As previously announced, our very own Dr. Elena Lebduska received this recognition.
Congratulations to Dr. Manisha Bhide who was recently named as Membership Chair for the SGIM Mountain West region.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Jennifer Michener to the GIM family. Dr. Michener completed medical school at Temple University School of Medicine and residency at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania. She joins us most recently from Whiteriver Indian Hospital in Whiteriver, Arizona where she was the Outpatient Director and primary care provider. Dr. Michener is working at the Anschutz Clinic.
This month we celebrated National Nurse Practitioner Week. This year's theme, "NPs: Going the Extra Mile," certainly captures the spirit of our GIM Nurse Practitioners. We have extraordinary NPs in our Palliative Care and Primary Care sections who go the extra mile for their patients and colleagues each day. Even though the official week has past, every day is a good day to say thank you.

The CU Anschutz SOM Programmatic Incubator for Research (CU Aspire) Program is accepting applications. To see the full RFA and application process click here. Applications are due February 14, 2022.
The University of Colorado School of Medicine Fund to Retain Clinical Scientists Program is accepting applications. This is a grant and mentoring program for MD or DO's of all genders who are funded junior faculty facing hardship resulting from caregiving needs. The School of Medicine is recruiting the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) Faculty Accreditation Lead in preparation for the site visit in academic year 2024-2025. You can find a full job description and application details here.

CU Medicine has updated the "conditions and treatments" section available for CU Doctors profiles. The new options are available under "Wellness and Prevention" and include LGTBQIA+ Ally and LGTBQIA+ PrEP. To update your own profile:
1) Go to the SOM Faculty & Staff Resources site here
2) Sign in
3) Click the "Clinical" button
4) In the "Conditions & Treatments" box click the "click here to add one" hyperlink
5) Use the drop down menu to select a category
6) If applicable, check the boxes of the additional categories you'd like to add
7) Click the blue "done" button
Remember - you can also add Transgender Health with these same steps!
Earlier this month our clinics participated in the CPC+ Annual Meeting and were meritorious representatives of the excellent work being done in our primary care clinics. Anschutz Internal Medicine was invited to give two oral presentations:
During the "Collaborative Care Teams Achieve Comprehensive Care" session, Ingrid Lobo, MD and Rachel Lowe, PharmD presented the clinic's pharmacist led hypertension intervention.
During the session "Effective Use of Data Can Improve Care Delivery," Ingrid Lobo, MD and Diana Aggers presented on the clinic's chronic disease management outreach programs. During the same session, Dr. Lobo and Mary Kozloski presented on the Mental Health Care Coordinator (MHCC) role to support patients and providers in meeting their mental health treatment goals.
Further, our GIM clinics presented several posters to highlight and disseminate the outstanding value-based care being provided in our clinics:

Calling all educators... we are excited to be getting close to the start of the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships (LICs). Students will be starting in clinics on January 17, 2022. The students will have three educational sessions (Wednesdays from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm) dedicated to Internal Medicine topics. The sessions will be held on the Anschutz campus on January 19, May 18, and June 1. The sessions will be entirely team-based learning cases. We are looking for volunteers to help facilitate these small group sessions. Cases and facilitator guides will be prepared in advance for you - all you have to do is read through the cases beforehand (~1 hour). Anyone interested in facilitating one of these sessions can contact Michelle Nikels.
