The Office of Hawaiian Affairs continues its recruitment of executive leaders, managers and other professional staff to serve the lāhui. We hope you or someone you know is interested in a career of service, as our team works to improve the wellbeing of Native Hawaiians through advocacy, research, community engagement, and resource management.

Work for the lāhui at the OHA Washington, D.C. Bureau
Positions with Our Washington, D.C., Bureau Team

The Washington, D.C., Bureau Chief oversees the worksite, staff, and professional and organizational activities of the Washington, D.C. Bureau and is responsible for providing policy, legislative, lobbying, and other advocacy services to advance positive systemic change for Native Hawaiians.

The Public Policy Advocate is responsible for knowing, understanding, applying, analyzing, developing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and advocating for public policy that betters the conditions of Native Hawaiians. Activities include interaction with government agencies at the federal, state, and county levels as well as other policy constructs (e.g., boards, commissions); promoting and facilitating the participation of beneficiaries and communities in governmental processes; and coordinating and facilitating community, legislative, and efforts.

Positions with Our Advocacy and Community Engagement Teams

Both Public Policy Managers are responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Public Policy Program. Management includes knowing, understanding, applying, analyzing, developing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and advocating for public policy that betters the conditions of Native Hawaiians.

The Public Policy Advocates are responsible for knowing, understanding, applying, analyzing, developing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and advocating for public policy that betters the conditions of Native Hawaiians. Activities include interaction with government agencies at the federal, state, and county levels as well as other policy constructs (e.g., boards, commissions); promoting and facilitating the participation of beneficiaries and communities in governmental processes; and coordinating and facilitating community, legislative, and efforts.

Public Policy Advocates in the Advocacy Division will focus on advocacy at the state level and will be based out of the Oʻahu office at Nā Lama Kukui. Public Policy Advocates in the Community Engagement Division will focus on advocacy at the county level and be located on Kauaʻi, Maui, Molokaʻi, and Hawaiʻi Island (Kailua-Kona and Hilo).
