Newton's popular Christmas Market returns this Sunday

Expect stalls loaded with lots of gift ideas as well as delicious food and drink to tempt you!

The event takes place from 1-6pm, and admission is free.

Capping off the fun is the lighting up of the Christmas tree at St Peter’s Church at 5pm.

Santa is heading to a street near you soon!

The fantastic Newton-le-Willows Rotary will once more be touring local streets with Santa in his sleigh this year.

Medal magic for Hope Acro in British Finals

Gymnasts from Newton-le-Willows based Hope Acro took on some of the best competition in the country at a British Championships in Stoke on Trent. The talented troupe came away with an impressive medal tally, having surpassed even their "wildest expectations".

Three things you need to know this week

1. As part of a merger of local Catholic parishes, St David's Church on Wargrave Road has closed its doors for the final time. The church can no longer be used for sacred purposes, and the future of the site is uncertain. Read more in the St Helens Star.

2. Temporary lights are in place on Vista Road from now until Friday, whilst pavement repairs are carried out. We have a list of all the upcoming roadworks that might affect your journeys on our site now.

3. You have until Friday to donate a gift to the Community Secret Santa appeal. The idea is to support those who need help, but might not normally ask for it. The appeal will provide gifts for children and hampers of Christmas food to families. You can also nominate a family who you think deserve some extra cheer this Christmas - you have until Monday to do this. Find out more.
