December Newsletter + Hello 2022!

Hello!

Happy festive season! It's that weird in-between time after Christmas but not quite new year, so I'm taking this time to think about at all the things I got up to in 2021. I've also finally filmed a video going through my most recently filled sketchbook - looking back through all the drawings was a great way to reflect on the year. I have a few projects in mind already for next year, but in the meantime here's what I've been working on this month...

Dog Portrait

Now Christmas is over I can share pet illustrations I did without spoiling anyone's gifts! This cutie is my partner's family's dog - I've drawn and painted all their cats but never the dog, so here he is. He's so friendly and sleepy. I sketched him from life in my sketchbook first, and creating this finished illustration was so much more fun not having to work from photos.

Acrylic Inks

I treated myself to a set of acrylic inks as a Christmas present to myself this year! I kept seeing people making amazing artwork using them and wanted to get involved myself, I can't resist new art supplies. So far I'm still puzzling them out but they're really vibrant colours and layer a little bit like risograph printing. Excited to play with them more in future!

Shop Fronts

A couple of shop front commissions I worked on in December (I think? I can't remember, it's been a long month!) Hopefully going to be working on a few more projects in the new year involving drawing buildings - they're always a fun challenge, especially ones with quirky architecture like these!

Full Sketchbook Tour

Finally got around to filming this! I filled this sketchbook around the end of October, so it's filled with 6 months worth of drawings. I try to use my sketchbooks as a way of gathering and recording ideas, to then take further into other projects - or just to enjoy the process of sketching! Hope you enjoy watching this quick flip through.
A big thanks for your support this year, it means a lot! I hope you've enjoyed reading these monthly newsletters - I'm thinking about possibly changing them up in future, maybe making them every 2 months or quarterly. But thanks for sticking around, and I'm excited to see what next year holds!

Take care and have a calm and happy start to 2022!
