I am thankful to be a part of church and staff that is looking for evidence of God in all things. Pastor Marion is especially gifted at seeing what others often miss.

Terminus: the end of the line. I learned recently that this is what the city of Atlanta was named. In the 1800s, this area was named Terminus because it was the last destination on the Western-Atlantic train connecting Tennessee to Georgia.
Because it was the arrival spot and ending spot for the train, the terminus of that train line, people referred to the city as Terminus. Years later, the then Governor would rename Terminus to Marthasville, after his own daughter. Two years later, it was renamed the third and final time to Atlanta, the feminine version of the Atlantic, giving a nod to the railway that started it all.
What is interesting to me, is no one expected much from this area. When investor Stephen Long was asked to purchase land, he declined saying “The Terminus will be a good location for one tavern, a blacksmith shop, a grocery store, and nothing else.”
Right now, a zero-mile marker remains in downtown Atlanta, surrounded by one of the
nation’s largest airports, colleges, skyscrapers, restaurants, parks, the aquarium, Coca-Cola headquarters, national landmarks, major businesses, famous night clubs, and even sidewalks connecting people to downtown! There is much more than just one tavern, one blacksmith, and one store.
What looks to be nothing, with very low expectations, can quite possibly become something much bigger. That, my friends, is scriptural. An unexpected birth or a family dynamic change or a simple act of hospitality or a surprise encounter with a child. Your expectations may not be high, you may not want to invest, but do. Pour into the terminus where you are. What looks to be the last stop of a train, may just be what you need.
This Advent, may we all invest, take risks, and pay attention to the opportunities exactly where we are and be amazed at what can grow around us.
See you Sunday!
