Special Presentation by Jennifer Bowen
PhD Candidate, University of Victoria

Date & Time: Thursday, December 9, 2021, 7 pm PDT/MST
Location: Online (Zoom)

We are excited to invite you, our members, to join us on Thursday, December 9 at 7:00 pm PDT/MST for a special 30-minute presentation by PhD candidate Jennifer Bowen to share her master's research project and introduce her PhD project, followed by a Q&A.

Jennifer recently received her Master's of Art History and Visual Studies from the University of Victoria after completing a research project that examined the history of the Northern Athapaskan Dagger and Indigenous exhibition design and curatorial practice in the Yukon. She has now accepted an offer to continue her research as a PhD student.

To join this special session, please use the Zoom meeting information below. There is no need to register in advance. We hope to see you there!

About Jennifer's Research
Jennifer's research locates the Dene within extensive trade networks in the Northwest Territories, Yukon, British Columbia, Alaska, and Siberia. Since the Northern Athapaskan Dagger was collected in the 1800s, the production of the dagger was believed to be a technology introduced by the Europeans. However, recent discoveries in melting ice patches on the borders of Yukon/Alaska have found copper daggers dated to almost a thousand years. As the narrative of the metal use among the Athapaskans has changed by physical evidence, how are Indigenous exhibition spaces changing in the North?
