International Visitation and Spending Forecasts

International visitors are an essential part of Utah’s visitor economy. In 2019, international visitors spent $812 million in the Utah economy; these exports account for 8.07% of the total $10.06 billion visitor spending.

Forecasts reflect reaching 2019 international visitation and spending levels by 2024 and surpassing 2019 visitation levels by 14.7% and spending levels by 7.6% in 2025. (Outpacing the US visitation forecasts of 8% and US spending forecasts by 3% by 2025 relative to 2019)  *US Travel/Tourism Economics

IPW Las Vegas

The International team attended IPW in Las Vegas September 19-22. The Utah Office of Tourism representative firms from Canada (representing Canada, Australia, and New Zealand) and the UK/Ireland, France, and Belgium also attended. The team hosted over 90 one-on-one meetings at our booth with buyers and participated in the media marketplace with 30 desk-side media appointments. Utah was also one of only eight destinations that hosted a press conference with 100+ media in attendance.

The International team will continue to reunite and rebuild the industry at IPW in 2022 in Orlando, June 4-8, 2022. Learn more and register at https://www.ipw.com

Brand USA Travel Week Europe

Jody Blaney, Global Markets Specialist overseeing the European markets, attended Brand USA Travel Week Europe in London October 25-28, 2021. Jody and Jenni Bridgman, Utah’s Account Manager with KBC Marketing and PR, met with 30 key airline and travel trade buyers to work on product development, education, and campaign recovery efforts in Europe. Following Travel Week, the KBC team hosted a VIP media event with five top journalists pitching what’s new and promoting responsible visitation to Utah.

International Market Readiness Tourism Discussion

From November 8-10, 2021, the International team met with Southern Utah suppliers and three US-based inbound receptive tour operators for an informative presentation and round-table presentation about international tourism in Utah. The team reviewed the basics of working with inbound receptive tour operators and how to work effectively with the travel trade. They discussed Utah’s international marketing efforts with insights into Utah’s top inbound markets. Attendees learned how to work with their local DMOs to reach international markets and how working with the travel trade can benefit their business.
