Cold Weather Shelters in All Communities in Central Oregon

We can all think back to years when cold weather sheltering in our communities wasn't guaranteed... But we have good news!!

This Winter, as a result of all of YOUR hard work, we are proud to announce that there are sheltering options in every community in Central Oregon. None of the shelters will be temperature dependent, which means that folks that need these shelters to survive can rely on a consistent program to provide safety and warmth throughout the Winter. This is a reason to celebrate!

You can learn more about the sheltering options in your community, here

How Two Western States are Addressing the Eviction Moratorium

While Oregon and Washington are neighbors in the PNW, they often share similarities in how they tackle regional issues. However, Oregon are Washington's strategies seem to differ in how they are managing evictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Washington's Gov. Inslee allowed the state's eviction moratorium to expire on October 31st, while Oregon's Gov. Brown appears be considering a special session specifically related to addressing continued tenant protections. According to the most recent Household Pulse Survey, nearly 1 in 3 people in Washington, that is late on rent or mortgage payments, is at risk of being evicted in the next two months. Oregon's numbers aren't much different, with nearly 1 in 2.5 people in the same situation.

With such similar rates of foreclosure or eviction, it begs the question of why Washington and Oregon are deviating on policy, in this instance? Who's policy choices will lead to the best outcome? Time will tell...

If you are planning projects that would utilize 4% LIHTC with Private Activity Bonds in the coming years, please fill out this survey so OHCS can forecast how to most effectively allocate the limited resource.
