Rowdy Mermaid Discontinues Popular Kombucha Flavor Due to Climate Change Impacts
Rowdy Mermaid, the Boulder-based leading functional beverage brand, is living its values via a recent decision to discontinue Living Ginger, one of its most popular kombucha flavors, due to climate change impacts. For the last four years, warmer winters have caused the failure of Tasmanian pepperberry crops, a critical ingredient in Living Ginger and food for the Currawongs, a native Tasmanian bird. The anticipated depletion of this crop and resulting impact on the Currawongs due to climate change led Rowdy Mermaid to make the difficult decision to discontinue Living Ginger. Last month, Rowdy Mermaid launched a new Hibiscus Pulse flavor, which features hibiscus flowers with low-key cassia and chipotle, to replace Living Ginger on store shelves.
