Arizona Outlaws Annual Holiday Party

Sunday December 5, 2021

It's that time of the year for all good (and bad) Outlaws to get together and ring in the Holiday Season to celebrate another year of great Outlaws events and friendships. The Arizona Outlaws 356 Club's 28th anniversary Holiday Party will be will be graciously hosted by Outlaws President Cliff Berryman at his North Scottsdale home. The party will be outside with care taken to limit contact and ensure distancing. Masks are optional.

The normal Sunday gathering at Lone Spur Cafe will not be held in lieu of the Holiday Party.

WHAT TO BRING

The Club will be providing BBQ from Pork On A Fork; smoked brisket, pulled pork, BBQ chicken, and two side dishes. Even a Harvest Salad for the non-Porkatarians. Water and soft drinks will be also be provided. You may bring your own beer or wine if desired.

Outlaws are encouraged to bring a home-made dessert pot-luck style.

GIFT EXCHANGE

The Outlaw Gift Exchange is back and will begin after lunch. Plan to bring one gift per person to participate. The gifts should be Porsche or Automotive related, and reasonably priced around $25. This is a good chance to get rid of those ‘special’ items that you have saved for years (or got stuck with from a previous year’s gift exchange)!

Outlaws Car Show at Longbow Golf Course

Longbow Golf Course owner Bob McNichols invited the Outlaws to show their cars at his beautiful Mesa golf club. The Outlaws responded with 20 cars to show at the Longbow Golf Course following the monthly gathering at the Lone Spur Cafe. It was an idyllic setting on the grass in front of the driving range and was complemented with perfect Arizona Fall weather.

Thanks to Chuck Croteau for some great photos, Tom Reyman for planning the show, and Bob McNichols for the hospitality.

Porsche Chandler Cars and Coffee Classic Car Show

The folks at our Porsche Chandler dealership put on a great Cars and Coffee Car show. The event had a little of everything to see, from exotic 918 Spyders to quite a few of our 356 models. Food trucks and a tasty Omelette station kept the many attendees fed throughout the morning as they admired the many cars on display. The show was followed by a group drive to Saguaro Lake. It wasn't easy keeping up with the 911 crowd. Thanks to Joe Aker of Porsche Chandler for coordinating such a fun event and inviting the Outlaws to participate.

Palms to Pines SoCal Event

The Southern California 356 Club hosted the 30th anniversary Palms to Pines event in Palm Springs with excursions to the quaint towns of Julian and Idyllwild, CA. Outlaws were well represented by Len and Sue Erie, Roy Pederson and Mary Jane Oring, Pete Robinson, Mark Lauver, and Deborah and Scott Evans. Most left a day early to arrive in Julian, CA, to meet up with the main group coming on Friday for lunch and famous apple pie. As expected, a caravan of about thirty 356s showed up in Julian for lunch followed by a spirited drive back on a curvy road to Palm Springs.

Friday evening provided a meet and greet event at the Palm Springs Porsche dealership. Similar to some of the 356 dealer events we have attended in Bend and Chandler, the Palm Springs dealership really put on a great show with eight 356 cars gracing the main showroom floor, which included two 356 Carreras. One of these amazing Carreras was presented by Chuck and Marsha House, an all original 16,000 mile car with great patina.

The main event was the Saturday drive from Palm Springs to the mountain top town of Idyllwild. This was a spirited drive as well and had the 70+ cars broken into Sport and Touring class. Deborah and I were following Roy and Mary Jane in the first group and worked pretty hard to keep up. The weather was perfect and some hazy clouds provided a little relief for the open cars. The hook up at the Coachella Lookout is always a fun break from the action and gave drivers some time to cool the brakes and swap some tall tales from the drive.

Thanks to Michael and Jayne Goldberg for organizing such a fun event.

News From Down-Under

Garry Stokes of Beenleigh, Australia, was kind enough to provide a brief update of  some Porsche 356 action "Down-Under" at the Porsche Club of Queensland, Australia:

We recently had two outings of the Porsche Club of Queensland and there were a number of 356's there. The white 356 Outlaw belongs to the collection of our Club President and the others are from recent Workshop tours.

We have a company known as McKernan Restorations in Kippa-Ring Queensland where the talented boys have been working on 550 Spyder replicas and you can see their hours of work coming to completion with the first prototype and the timber buck featured in the photos.

The 356 tradition is alive down-under but in smaller numbers.

Thanks Garry, we love to see some international news about our beloved 356.

Cars on Kiawah Car Show - Kiawah Island, SC

Outlaws President Emeritus Steve Proctor is presented with an award for the "Spotlight Group - Porsche 356" in his 1958 Porsche 356A Speedster at the Cars On Kiawah fifth annual display of over 250 of the region's most outstanding automobiles. The annual show is located in the scenic location of Ocean Park on Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

During the weekend of the show, Steve was also found at the Grease and Grits cookout hosted by 356 Registry President Emeritus Curt Dansby. Bruce Edge is shown below styling his Outlaws T-Shirt, while Curt Dansby and Frank Hood work their "magic" in the kitchen.

Outlaw Mike Fedak reports...
Alive and well here in Lake Havasu, Debbie took her car to the annual Veterans Day car show and won best in class for 55-59 cars and trucks. There were over 52 entries in this class with a lot of 55-57 Chevy’s. A lot of head shaking when they announced a 1958 Porsche Cabriolet as the winner!

Way to go Debbie!
