In this long season of gratitude and giving, Steve Polston will include short smartphone videos made by Saints in regular bursts on the St. Timothy’s YouTube channel.
If you can make horizontal videos of less than 30 seconds showing what you are thankful for, plan to send them to steve@stevepolston.com. You need not appear in the video and you need not include audio unless the sound is part of the moment of gratitude.
Please include your first and last name in the email message with your video.

Why I Give, My testimony of gratitude
I want to tell you about my sense of gratitude for what God has done at St. Timothy’s.
Now, I’ve only been here for 24 years. Many of you have been here for almost twice that amount of time. A few have been here longer. Several have been here less time.
This is my testimony.
I have seen some amazing things happen at St. Timothy’s. One thing that has happened over and over is that God has showed up in prophetic moments. That sense of Divine presence is in our DNA – it is part of who we are, and I have seen that we can expect that it will happen again. I pray that it will happen again.
More than ten years ago a man – Ben Sworh – came to worship with us one day. I saw him in the hallway before service and welcomed him. He asked to know who the priest was. I said, “It’s Kirsteen Wilkinson. You will see her at worship.”
After worship I brought Ben to Mother Kirsteen and introduced them. Ben looked at Kirsteen with this serious look. He said, “I have family in Liberia. I’m going to bring them here. I want you to take me to your Bishop. Who is the bishop?”
Kirsteen was able to bring Ben to meet Bishop Cate Waynick that next week. Kirsteen said later that Ben asked for money to pay for visas and airfare. Bishop Waynick said she could give him half of what he requested – several thousand dollars – but St. Tim’s would provide the rest.
Mother Kirsteen was able to bring Ben’s story – now it was St. Tim’s story – to the people of St. David’s in Bean Blossom. They had mission money available they said, and they would make up the difference between what St. Timothy’s could provide. I think it was almost $3,000. St. David’s congregation pledged to tithe ten percent of their budget each year to mission activity. Giving to Ben was only a portion of their mission work that year.
A few days before Christmas, Ben’s children were able to come. Sheryl Otter went to the airport to pick them up early on December 23, but they weren’t there. A gate attendant told them mistakenly that they had missed a flight to Indianapolis, and they were stranded in New York in the airport – in the middle of the night. Sheryl and Kirsteen were able to make plans for those children to arrive in Indianapolis soon after.
Eventually, Ben’s wife was able to come to Indianapolis. And they had another baby here. Later, several more people who were born in Liberia came to St. Timothy’s. Those are people who have enlarged our St. Timothy’s family and they have changed our DNA.
I am grateful for that moment of prophecy when Ben showed up and made a place here for Liberians to become part of our family.
Thank you!
Steve Polston
