As the end of the semester looms we would like to give a huge thank you to the three platforms that have been developing experimental art education throughout 2021. The Garden Department, Writing Classes and Recipes for a Technological Undoing began in January, and were the first platforms to be funded by the Editorial Board. They have organised an impressive combination of workshops, lectures, publications and events, and invited an array of artists, writers, theorists and gardeners to share their knowledge with students and tutors alike. We very much appreciate all the work they have done and are looking forward to seeing how they evolve in the future. Information about all of their previous events can be found here.

SPOTLIGHT

Last week the Editorial Board organised a symposium on forms of experimental art education and their potential to shape future educational models and discourses. Our first guest, Clare Butcher, used her own experiences of education and the writing of bell hooks to ask how we can integrate death into pedagogical structures. Clara Balaguer shared with us a reading method called channeling, and asked us to think how the form in which a text is shared can enrich the writing. Alongside this were presentations from the three initial platforms. The entire symposium is available to watch here. Thank you to all who took part or joined as members of the audience.

recently held a movement workshop with Karlijn Kabira, and up next will be a lecture-workshop exploring scientific and artistic approaches to liveness, taking contemporary dance making as its starting point.

have just had their second session guided by Julia Eckhardt, where participants shared their own audio, scores and performances for a feedback session. With this they aim to create a space to collaborate, create, and think around matters of sound.
are, after a jam-packed semester, focusing on making a publication collecting writing from all of their workshops and student gatherings over the past year. It will be launched in February, so keep your eyes peeled for more updates.

The Garden Department

have come to the end of their permaculture course, which culminated in a series of presentations by participants. They have a surfeit of pumpkins in the garden (most recently used for cakes), and are now planning how they can ensure the garden and the thinking it generates continues into the next year and beyond.

Recipes for a Technological Undoing

were recently joined by Kexin Hao for a Total Body Workout, and following that by Yun Ingrid Lee, who asked how it’s possible to make space for the face within the boundaries of surveillance technologies.

Werker Collective are currently working on a transcription of a conversation on art-worker’s rights that will soon be published on the extra intra website. In the meantime, they have constructed a performance based on this conversation script, which was shown at the Rijksakademie internal open studios earlier this week.
