This'll be a quickie!

I know you're itchin' to gobble up leftovers and buy a Roomba today, so lemme spit it out:

1. YELLOWJACKETS is my new favorite show. Think LOST meets LORD OF THE FLIES meets your '90s diary. It stars Juliette Lewis, Melanie Lynskey and Christina Ricci, with a soundtrack heavy on the Liz Phair/PJ Harvey. It gets bloody. See it on Showtime.

2. I dug C'MON C'MON, the new film from Mike Mills starring Joaquin Phoenix as a radio producer who finds himself stuck with his 9-year-old nephew. I can't say I learned much since I'm stuck with a 9-year-old 24-7, but the cast is excellent, especially Gaby Hoffmann. Here's an interview with Hoffmann, and here's a podcast conversation between Mills and David Byrne(!).

3. I've been watching the new season of CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM and it's pretty, pretty good. Here's an interview with Susie Essman, whose outfits are on fire.

4. FRIDAY is now in print, and it's gorgeous. Imagine Harriet the Spy as a college student, and you get the concept of the comic from Ed Brubaker, Marcos Martin and Muntsa Vicente. You can still read it online via Panel Syndicate.

5. I *had* to pick up Melissa Maerz's oral history of DAZED AND CONFUSED, titled (what else?) ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT. It's everything I wanted.

6. I'm late to the dance with Junji Ito's horror manga. SHIVER has been giving me creepy bedtime stories for the last few days.

7. Why am I recommending so many books? Because I cleaned my bathtub, which is where I do my best reading! I also blazed through Simon Rich's funny/timely HITS AND MISSES.

8. I bought my daughter THE SECRET GARDEN ON 81st STREET, the new "modern graphic retelling" of THE SECRET GARDEN. She read it immediately, then proceeded to reread it.

9. Bitter Southerner's Michael Stipe profile is now online (but the print version is beautiful).

10. Jonathan Goldstein delivered another stellar episode of his HEAVYWEIGHT podcast. The premise starts simply enough: Whatever happened to a girl his mother-in-law met one summer in the 1960s? What he discovers is so shocking he made it a two-parter!

11. And finally, the bathroom scene in last week's SUCCESSION ... well, I'm still fanning myself.
