Know Your Rights Assembly
We partnered with the Legal Rights Center to learn more about our rights while interacting with the police. We learned about stating our rights to be silent, recording interactions and other ways to protect ourselves.

The Know Your Rights campaign travels to different parts of the metro area to teach students and adults about the rights they have if they come in contact or are questioned by police officers.
Next month the Know Your Rights campaign will be coming in to talk to our students about the school to prison pipeline and how our legal and education systems are connected.

Career Focus Assembly - Dr Jessica Diaz led a “Ted Talk” on never ever giving up, tales from the ICU and the importance of wearing your mask.
Our monthly career assemblies align with multiple contracts and agreements that are fundamental to our learning programs. For example, Federal Title grants; our contract with our authorizer, The Minnesota Guild; our MDE School Improvement Plan, and our Minnesota World's Best Work Force goals.

By meeting as a school on a monthly basis to discuss careers, students begin to shape ideas about how they can contribute to the community and build a future for themselves.
Research shows that students who regularly set goals and review progress, are more motivated and graduate sooner. Currently enrolled 9th - 12th grade students can review progress towards graduation 24/7 via their personal graduation plans.

Serenading Art Elective
One of our seniors is shown singing during our art elective class. Each school day students spend the last hour in an elective class of their choosing.
So far this school year students have been able to choose from these topics: Art, Jewelry Making, Card Games, Board Games, PSEO prep, Study Hall, Basketball, Plants and Animals, Dance, and Forensic Science. Elective topics are co-generated monthly by students and teachers.

Independent Study
A small group of Independent Study Art students recently toured the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s many galleries. They engaged in critiques about technique and materials, as well as the ways that an artist impacts and documents the beliefs, values and behaviors of a society. The museum allows visitors to take pictures of the collections. During the 3 hour self-guided tour, students were inspired to take an average of 65 photos each.

Career Pathways goals are to provide a safe learning environment that fosters the soft skills necessary to become career and college ready.
We start with an emphasis on Professional, Appreciative, Thoughtful and Helpful actions that promote empathy and social justice. We work to increase students’ perceptions of autonomy, belongingness, goal orientation, academic press, engagement and hope. Simultaneously we provide multiple hands-on and experiential career exploration opportunities that build skills, ignite interest, and foster self reflection.

Kids in Need
One of our community partners is Kids in Need. Our teaching staff are invited to “shop” for classroom supplies for all kinds of lessons. For example high quality paint brushes for art projects, other examples include, backpacks, notebooks, journals, pens, and pencils.
Supplies, time and money are donated so that Kids in Need can run a donation pick up location for area teachers. Each year our teaching staff take advantage of these gifts to provide school supplies to all of our students.

We welcome donations and gifts all year long. Donate directly to the school anytime with a check, or use this link. Thank you!
No gift is too small.
