2. House Democrats Pass $2 Trillion Spending Bill that Will Force Taxpayers to Fund Abortions

(LifeNews) - Republican leaders temporarily delayed a vote on the legislation Thursday, but Democrats, who control the House, pushed forward Friday morning, passing the bill in a 220-213 vote, the BBC reports. Only one Democrat joined Republicans in voting against it. Nicknamed the “Build Back Better” Act, a project of President Joe Biden, the bill would force taxpayers to pay for abortions, including elective late-term abortions, Republican leaders warned. According to the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, the legislation even would fund abortions with taxpayer dollars in pro-life states that have opted out of abortion funding in the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare. “Pelosi and her allies are sneakily working to force Americans to be complicit in abortion on demand up to birth every which way they can,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the pro-life organization. MORE

3. Governors Demand Investigations into Pornography in School Libraries

(DC) - As parents around the country are rising up to challenge the social and sexual indoctrination of their children in public schools through the use of explicit sexual content, we’re getting a better handle on what is turning out to be a national problem. From Virginia to Ohio, from Texas to California, and from Colorado to Washington state, parents are standing up and objecting to the alarming prevalence of porn in their schools, much of it disguised as “sex ed” and provided by organizations like Planned Parenthood. While objectionable material is found in classroom curriculums, much of it also shows up in school libraries as “approved” books and resources, and two state governors are calling for investigations by their departments of education as well as law enforcement into how pornography and other obscene materials can show up on library shelves. MORE

4. Archbishop Gomez addresses rise of 'wokeness', social movements in US

(CNA) - On Thursday, Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles discussed the rise of new secular ideologies and movements for social change in the United States during a virtual address to the Congress of Catholics and Public Life in Madrid. He asserted that it is “important for the Church to understand and engage these new movements—not on social or political terms, but as dangerous substitutes for true religion.” “Today’s critical theories and ideologies are profoundly atheistic,” Gomez said Nov. 4. “They deny the soul, the spiritual, transcendent dimension of human nature; or they think that it is irrelevant to human happiness.” Gomez’ thesis, he said, is that the new social movements that exist in the U.S., such as “social justice,” “wokeness,” “identity politics,” “intersectionality,” or “successor ideology,” should be understood as “pseudo-religions, and even replacements and rivals to traditional Christian beliefs,” and can result in tribalism. MORE

5. Washington Florist Who Declined to Serve Same-Sex Wedding to Pay Settlement and Retire

(NCRegister) - A Christian florist who was sued after declining to create flower arrangements for a same-sex wedding ceremony and subsequently spent eight years in court will pay a small settlement and retire, rather than seek another U.S. Supreme Court hearing. “I am willing to turn the legal struggle for freedom over to others. At age 77, it’s time to retire,” Barronelle Stutzman, who owns Arlene’s Flowers in Richland, Washington, said Nov. 18. “I’ve never had to compromise my conscience or go against my faith. I’ve met so many, many kind and wonderful people, who’ve generously offered me their prayers and encouragement and support.” In 2013, the florist declined to make flower arrangements for the same-sex wedding of long-time customer and friend Rob Ingersoll and his partner Curt Freed. She said that as a Christian, she believed such a union would violate her faith, and she could not make a floral arrangement for a same-sex wedding. Stutzman referred Ingersoll to several nearby florists. MORE
