Dear Friends,

As Thanksgiving approaches and I reflect on the past year, I realize that there is much to be thankful for.  We were able to re-open and invite you back into our museum gallery, hold events and host school groups.  I am thankful to the volunteers, Staff and Board for all their hard work, and their dedication and commitment to fulfilling our mission.

Most of all, I am thankful to you, our members and supporters that have helped us achieve such a successful year despite the uncertain times.  I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.

With gratitude,
Terry Reid
Deputy Director
Thanks to our Christmas elves!
They were busy decorating the museum for the holidays this past week.

The theme of our beautiful tree complements our current 'Immigrants of Northport and East Northport' exhibit.
Numerous local school groups visited the museum last week to learn about immigration with our Museum educator, Ceylan Swenson.
The students got creative by choosing an immigrant from the museum exhibit and writing a postcard addressed to that person.  See below for some examples:
COMING UP IN DECEMBER...

* Holiday Cookie Decorating *

Our 'Stamp Your Passport' series highlights Ireland.

This adult only event is inspired by Irish immigrant, Isabelle Quinlan, who settled in Northport in the late 1880's.

On Saturday, December 11th at 6:30pm, you will hear the amazing story behind Isabelle Quinlan's gingerbread cookies and family history at our museum gallery.  Then, while enjoying wine and snacks, local entrepreneur Jean Ann Travers will guide us in decorating cookies baked with Isabelle's recipe. (see above picture)

The festive evening will feature the Northport High School Chamber Orchestra playing music in our museum gallery.

For our next NHS Book Club Meeting
we will be reading:

The Lost Boys of Montauk: The True Story of the Wind Blown, Four Men Who Vanished at Sea, and the Survivors They Left Behind
by author Amanda M. Fairbanks

"In March of 1984, the commercial fishing boat Wind Blown left Montauk Harbor on what should have been a routine offshore voyage..."

Barnes and Noble describes the book as:
An immersive account of a tragedy at sea whose repercussions haunt its survivors to this day, lauded by New York Times bestselling author Ron Suskind as "an honest and touching book, and a hell of a story."

Register here to participate in the discussion at our museum gallery on January 20th at 7pm
