What I have sought is to understand what has been said.
Ananda Coomaraswamy

Today let's highlight something that all artist's strive for, to be understood.

We all seek ways to understand the world around us. Understanding is deeply individual, and deeply vital to our human experiences. Because of our unique experiences nobody will see the world, or our art, exactly the same way we see it.
A month or two ago we talked about how that is a GOOD thing. Humans are not robots. This diversity of understanding and experience creates so much beauty in our world.

It's a beautiful thing that we keep trying to understand each other. It's a beautiful thing that we keep trying to express our vision, our stories, our ideas through our art.

A Pocket Guide to Critique

is just one way to help us understand art, and how to communicate that understanding. It is an ordered guide to analysis through the elements and principles of art and gives you an understandable vocabulary.
