Traffic Light System gets Green Light
The big news this week is that the country will move to the new COVID-19 Protection Framewok at 11:59pm on 2 December. 3 December will be the first day the framework, otherwise known as the traffic light system, will be operational.

What you need to know:
- The government has mandated that certain work may only be carried out by vaccinated workers. Vaccination has been mandated for workers at businesses that must use vaccine passes to operate. To continue doing work in these areas, workers will need to have their first vaccination by 11.59 pm on 2 December 2021. Read the legislation here.
- The COVID-19 Protection Framework (Traffic Light System) comes into effect at 11:59pm on 2 December 2021.
- The Ministry of Health's COVID-19 website is the best source of information on how to operate under the new system.
- If you operate a business where vaccination certificates are required you will need to use the NZ Pass Verifier to scan your customers' Vaccine Passes. Download it here.
- Worksafe have developed a risk assessment tool to help you clarify what work requires a vaccinated worker. Check it out here. And remember that the mandate applies to the work, not the individual. More on that here.
- If in doubt about your employees and how to deal with the vaccine mandate check out the Department of Labour website, or talk to an employment lawyer.

This summer, to help entice more visitors and their horses to the district, Kāpiti Coast District Council is supporting the Ōtaki Māori Racing Club to create an area for “horse camping”.
Just two minutes from State Highway 1 and the Ōtaki township, visitors will be able to set up a tent, float or horse-truck right next to their horse’s yard.

Economic Development Manager Mark Ward says that the recently adopted Destination Management Plan highlights more visitor experience opportunities for bridleways. "When we were approached by the Kāpiti Equestrian Advocacy Group (KEAG) with this idea, we were happy to support it,” says Mr Ward.
“Supporting local organisations, like KEAG and the Ōtaki Maori Racing Club, who have the shared vision and goal of attracting visitors to the Kāpiti Coast, is vital to our districts’ economic wellbeing as it generates spending at local hospitality and retail businesses, and on tourism activities.”

Council seeking business perspective on housing survey
Our district is growing and so is the need for housing and greater support services.
Council would like to hear how the current housing stress in Kāpiti is impacting your business and staff, and what your thoughts are on current and emerging housing and social needs.

This survey is part of a wider assessment to determine the district’s housing and social requirements, examine their nature and causes, and set priorities for future action. There is also a community survey underway alongside a number of planned kōrero events.
The anonymous online survey is quick and easy to complete with just 10 questions. Survey closes 5pm Friday 10 December 2021.
