Halloween Scavenger Hunt Was Big Success

The 2021 Halloween Scavenger Hunt was a huge hit! We had 130 registrants this year. Wow!  Despite some rain, we had great numbers. Families had fun figuring out the clues which led them to the ultimate prize, Halloween treat bags! Leftover treats went to a long term care home. Thanks to all the volunteers and those who donated candy.

Tree Planting in City View

CVCA Tree Committee members have been working with city staff to take advantage of several programs to plant more trees in City View.  These programs are associated with planting on both city and school board property.

This past July, the CVCA met city forestry staff to discuss possible locations and species for tree planting at Doug Frobel Park, and more recently in October for the City View Park and the Elizabeth Wyn Wood Secondary Alternate School yard. The proposed plan includes the planting of about 40 trees which will have several varieties including oaks, maples, ginkgos and basswoods. Planting is expected this fall and early spring.

Want to join in on the effort?

We are looking for volunteers to help next summer with the watering program of the new trees at the Elizabeth Wyn Wood School. Email us if interested.

Official Plan Update

On Oct. 27, 2021, City Council approved the new Official Plan that will take us into 2046.  This plan comes with a lot of inevitable changes that will lead to revised zoning by-laws that will transform our neighbourhoods. Within 300 metres of an existing or planned rapid transit station (Baseline rapid transit bus route) minimum building heights of four stories and minimum lot coverage of 70 per cent are proposed. A secondary plan can help override this to protect our core character and values. The CVCA will be working with the city and other community associations on three secondary plans that we hope will improve our community and help with the transformation.

The Baseline Secondary Plan, the Merivale Road Secondary Plan and the City View Secondary Plan will all be written and/or refined. We have a lot of work to do and would be glad to have some community input and members on this team.

If you are interested in being a part of this important team or you have comments or want more information, send us an e-mail at cityviewassociation@gmail.com.

Committee of Adjustments Nov. Update

The latest requests for variances come for 66 Chippewa and 57 Rossland Ave. The property 57 Rossland is actually an excellent example of what CofA is there for. It does have a “minor” variance, however, it was adjourned to Nov 8 in order to look at ways to save a tree.

The property 66 Chippewa was approved to allow a third floor with a second floor rooftop terrace.
