CELEBRATING COLLABORATION

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU to all our supporters, donors, service providers, volunteers, and all other stakeholders. None of what Strong Schools is trying to accomplish would be possible without people like you.

Thank you for sowing and investing in the education sector of South Africa and for impacting many lives on different levels. Our hope for 2022 is to get to know each other better and to multiply our impact through more synergy and collaboration.

From everyone at Strong Schools, we sincerely thank you for making 2021 possible.

With extreme gratitude
The Strong Schools Board and Team

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

"CONNECT AND CELEBRATE" was the theme of the Strong Schools Community Collaborative AGM on Wednesday, 10 November.

We were privileged to have a few of our Support Hub principals sharing about their journey with Strong Schools and to have our strategic partners, collaborators, funders and friends to share some stories of hope and collaboration.

Thank you to Laerskool De Hoop Primary for allowing us to use their beautiful premises for this joyful occasion and to everyone who came to celebrate with us.

We expressed a special word of thanks to our accountant Johann Hunter of Cloudsmart Accounting and our auditor Anna Durand of Finhub for the completion of our full audited financial statements. The financial statements are available for inspection and were signed off by the board.

"IT IS MORE BLESSED TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE"
Through this project we experienced
𝑴𝑼𝑳𝑻𝑰𝑷𝑳𝑰𝑪𝑨𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵 𝑻𝑯𝑹𝑶𝑼𝑮𝑯 𝑪𝑶𝑳𝑳𝑨𝑩𝑶𝑹𝑨𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵

On 9 December the principal, Mr Majingo and his teachers welcomed us at ACJ Phakade Primary school. The teachers surprised and blessed us all with their beautiful singing!

After many months of planning, meetings and discussions, we had the privilege to officially hand over the first phase of the ACJ Phakade Primary school’s Drainage and Kitchen project.  This enables the school to fully utilise their kitchen containers again for their school’s feeding scheme, without sewage and storm water around the area.  Mr. Majingo and his governing body expressed their sincere gratitude and blessings towards all the role players over and over again. He quoted Acts 20:35: “It is more blessed to give than to receive”
Without the sponsorship and collaboration of different companies and donors, this would not have been possible. We are so grateful and would like to thank all the stakeholders who came alongside us to empower and support  ACJ Phakade Primary School: Afrimat, DeKock 24hrBreakdown and Towing Service, JE4Architecture, Mergon Foundation, MWahl cc Project Management, and other private donors.

During Phase I extra drains were built and the concrete slab is in place, but the area around the school will still be wet because of a lack of proper drainage. Conversations continue between the WCED, City of Cape Town and Public Works to complete Phase II of the project, which should be finished before the next rainy season.

LITERACY WORKSHOPS

Literacy is the ability to read and write with understanding. There are serious consequences for a child who struggles to read. It's unavoidable - a poor reader becomes a struggling learner.

Cheraldine van der Merwe from Vriende Van Afrikaans (VVA) (a division of ATKV) and Dokka Swart from Doen en Leer strive to instill the importance of and the love for reading.

They visited two of our Support Hub schools - Sir Lowry’s Pass Primary and Dr. G. J. Joubert Primary on 10 and 11 November.
Dokka explained the importance of rhythm and balance for a child's reading development and demonstrated their reading program. Cheraldine stressed the importance of reading to children and gave an insightful talk on the statistics around reading skills.

Vriende Van Afrikaans donated 3 Boektrommels filled with beautiful Afrikaans books and educational games. THANK YOU!!!

There is a great need for funding for the 'Do and Learn' programs and the training of our schools' teachers. If you would like to get involved and also volunteer to help children to read, contact Annette Botha at admin@strongschoolsza.co.za or call 072 1899 360.
