Fall 2022 School Applications Closing
Complete your applications for Fall 2022 admissions
Both Chicago Public Schools and private schools are winding down their admissions seasons. CPS applications close on 12/15/21 at 5pm while independent & parochial private schools have varying deadlines for Fall 2022 applications. Be sure to check the due dates for any schools you are interested in and don't miss the deadlines!
Note that while the application itself must be submitted by the deadline, there may be additional elements like testing, interviews, recommendations or additional screenings that may be due or take place after the deadline, particularly for private schools.
For CPS programs, changes to school lists and any rankings (not required for Elementary Choice programs) must be done by the close of the application portal at 5pm on Dec. 15th.

Insight on CPS Ranking & Cut Scores
Confused about ranking CPS programs on application?
While all applications to CPS Selective Enrollment programs need to be ranked in order of preference, only CPS high school Choice programs require rankings while CPS elementary Choice programs do not. This helpful graphic is worth a look to assist in understanding the selection process. CPS online applications will close on Dec 15, 2021. The portal requires that all families create an account, and CPS families can enter their CPS Student ID while non-CPS families can request a CPS Student ID after creating an account.
All applicants to CPS elementary (K-8th grade) or high school (9th grade) programs can apply for two application types, all via the family's online account:
- Selective Enrollment (test based, up to 6 ranked in order of preference) AND
- Choice (up to 20, unranked for elementary and ranked for high school. Elementary programs are lottery based while some high schools have point rubrics)
Each student also has an assigned neighborhood school.
Go.CPS.edu outlines the process and admissions selection criteria. For selective enrollment programs, in person testing dates are selected after submitting your school choices. You can return to your portal to add, delete or rerank school programs until the 12/15/21 deadline.

Results for CPS HS Admissions Test?
CPS 8th graders may receive test results prior to 12/15
Because current CPS 8th graders took the CPS High School Admissions Test on Nov 9th, they may be able to receive their test scores that will be part of the rubric for 9th grade entry into selective enrollment, magnet, International Baccalaureate, CTE, Service Leadership and specialty CPS high school programs before the Dec 15th application deadline. While this does NOT show where they will be attending yet, high scoring students may get a better picture of their school options. Cutoff scores will not be released until Spring notifications. More information HERE.
Results for CPS Elementary selective enrollment programs will NOT be released before the 12/15/21 application deadline.

Catholic HS Placement Test 12/4/21
All applicants for 9th grade Catholic schools take HSPT
Current 8th graders interested in Catholic school programs will need to sit for the High School Placement Test (HSPT) at their first choice Catholic high school at 8am on Saturday, December 4th. This means that students interested in St. Ignatius, Loyola Academy, Fenwick HS or DePaul Prep should sit for the exam at that school. Also, if any student is interested in a scholarship from a particular high school, they should sit for the exam at that school. Check each school's application page ASAP for exam registration details.
Typically the exam itself is the first step to completing the school's application. Most schools encourage shadow days as well. Families should also have a second choice Catholic school in mind (beyond the ones listed above) and should inquire at the other schools regarding their waitlist admissions policy.
