Happy Holidays from the Can-SOLVE CKD Network

We would like to thank our network colleagues for all their support this year. Our offices will be closed December 20 to January 3 as we take a short break over the holidays. We wish you a safe and happy holiday season and look forward to connecting with you in 2022!

Update on Can-SOLVE CKD Phase 2

We are pleased to announce that our Phase 2 application has been completed and submitted to CIHR. This proposal outlines an exciting implementation science research program in addition to our continued work to build capacity for research that matters to patients.

We would like to thank all involved for their efforts over the past three months in the creation of this application. It has truly been a team effort, and we could not have done it without you.

We are looking forward to Can-SOLVE CKD Phase 2!

BC Kidney Check update

As we approach the end of 2021, the BC Kidney Check team would like to share an update on its work to conduct kidney health screening in partnership with Indigenous communities.
  • 16 First Nations communities have engaged with the BC Kidney Check team.
  • 1 new community, a Nuu Chah Nulth independent nation, was added to the program this year
  • 11 communities have hosted screening events
  • 209 individuals have been screened to date
  • Of the 209 individuals screened, 57% presented in the no risk category, 40% in low risk, 0.01% in medium risk, and <1% in high risk
  • Upcoming activities for the new year include nurse training in Williams Lake and Skidegate, with screening activities to take place in these two communities in early 2022
  • The team is in the process of hiring a new Project Nurse (see link below)
  • We will start planning an evaluation framework for BC Kidney Check in early 2022
Employment opportunity: BC Kidney Check Project Nurse

The Kidney Check project is aimed at providing kidney health screening, triage and treatment referral in selected First Nations communities. The Project Nurse will perform nursing duties, work collaboratively with local community health teams and provide training and mentorship to these teams to develop on-site capacity to conduct the program.
