Cerddwyr Cylch Teifi Walkers
Saturday morning 4 December
Cardigan - Town and Country
Leader: Siân Bowen
Leaving the Quay car park at 10.30am (SN175 460) (Postcode SA43 1HR), the car park where the old supermarket was by the river. There is a charge (card only) of £2.90 for 3 hours - and note that you need a little time to understand the machine’s language if you are not used to it! But it may be free on Saturdays in December.
Outline: following the Wales Coast Path and quiet lanes back to town.
Details: A walk along paths and quiet roads and although there are a few hills here and there, none are steep. In terms of the condition of the paths there will undoubtedly be some muddy spots. The walk will end on the Quay and you will have the opportunity to visit one of a variety of restaurants if you wish.
Some of the topics that will receive our attention are: Cardigan port and the shipbuilding industry (we will walk past Netpool, one of the places where small ships were built); the 1976 National Eisteddfod (the Gorsedd Stones stand in the park on the banks of the Teifi although not their original site); the site of the old Cardigan castle, before Lord Rhys's castle was built c.1171-76; the existing Teifi valley and the old valley; the river Mwldan and the building stones of Theatr y Mwldan and nearby houses.
Length of walk: 3.4 miles.
