2022 UA Asian Studies Research Award Submissions Invited.

You have been putting hours of work into an essay or research paper related to Asia, or perhaps you wrote a paper in the Spring 2021. You should also submit your work to the Asian Studies Research Award.

Each year, the Asian Studies Program gives out two research awards, along with a small scholarship, with a winner selected from submissions in each of two categories, essays and research papers. Essays are generally under 10 pages and can take various forms (book review, response paper, reflective essay, etc.). Research papers are generally longer than 10 pages and involve individual engagement with multiple sources to construct an original argument.

The awards are open to all UA undergraduates who have written a paper in the past year that has substantial engagement with Asia. Full directions to submit (deadline January 21, 2022) are available on the Asian Studies website.

Spring 2022 Courses Addressing Asia
We have many opportunities to study Asia while at the Capstone, though some are approaching full capacity. Many of these Asia courses also count towards specific General Education requirements. For Humanities/Fine Arts, you can take The Violent and the Sacred (REL 101), which will highlight Asia, or for the History sequence, you can take Modern Asia Since 1400 (HY 114, limited seats available). Two Asia related courses also satisfy the Writing requirement, Art of Imperial China (ARH 355) and Adv Studies in Comparative Multi-Cultural Lit: Literature of South Asia (EN 411.002). Language courses range from Chinese, Japanese, and Korean to Arabic, Farsi, Hindi, Thai, and more. Check out the full list of courses related to Asian Studies and add a course focused on Asia for next semester.
