BYM's New Approach to Interim Meeting for Business

Baltimore Yearly Meeting's winter Interim Meeting is scheduled for December 11 at 10:00.  It turns out that there are some detailed items on the agenda that call for one-time expenditures in 2021 and 2022, and a change in the camping program budget.  So the Interim Clerk is calling for an "advance information session" on December 4 at 9:00, in which Friends can hear descriptions of these detailed agenda items, and ask questions. All Friends are invited to participate in the advance information session, especially those who plan to participate in the Interim Meeting for Business on December 11.

New: Ideas for Your Reading List

Native Survival Memories for the Future, by Jade Begay, an excerpt from a new book New World Coming: Frontline Voices on Pandemics, Uprisings, and Climate Crisis, edited by Alastair Lee Bitsóí and Brooke Larsen and reprinted in Yes! Magazine, 11-24-21. Note from your editor: Hearing the story about the community values and cooperation of the Navajo and other Indigenous communities in managing the pandemic gives me a new understanding of the meaning of concepts like sovereignty and mutual aid. I draw hope from seeing the meta-story of teachers emerging in cultures and generations that are different from my own, and hearing their reflections forward from where they stand and live now within Indigenous cultures.

The author, Jade Begay, is Diné and Tesuque Pueblo of New Mexico. Jade is a filmmaker, communications and narrative strategist, and Indigenous rights and climate activist.

Resources for Native American Heritage Month

During November, thanks to contributions from Friends and other sources, our list of resources on Native American heritage grew to a healthy size.  These resources are now saved in an attachment, which you can find here.

Virtual Meetings for Worship and Work and Play

Virtual Meeting for Worship each Sunday begins with singing at 9:50 and continues with worship at 10:00, followed by sharing our joys and concerns, and  announcements. Following meeting for worship, we gather in small "virtual tables" for the potluck conversations we've been missing.  Then at noon, we move to a 2nd-hour discussion, a meeting for business, or other community activity.

Join virtual Meetings for Worship (and second hours) through this recurring Zoom link.*  You can also join by phone at 301-715-8592. The meeting ID is 870 7330 7657, and the meeting passcode is 672002.  If you are not in the Washington DC area, you can find your local call-in number here.

*This link will be the same for meeting for worship every Sunday (and second hours and meetings for business and such) until May 2022.

Outdoor in-person meetings for worship will continue for now behind the meetinghouse.  Children will meet in the Memorial Garden after joining in worship for the first 20 minutes of meeting.  Click on this link for guidelines.

Our children's outdoor in-person gatherings continue on Sundays at 10 am., beginning with 20 minutes of worship with families behind the meetinghouse.  Children then go to the Memorial Garden for First Day activities. For information, please contact Rob Duncan via our "Breeze" directory.

Meetings for Healing

with a Concern for a Broken Nation

On Wednesdays at noon, Friends gather for an hour of worship to hear joys and concerns, and to hold our nation in the Light that brings peace, imagination, and open hearts.  You are welcome to join in as you are able. Here is the recurrent Zoom link.  You can also connect by phone at 301-715-8592.  Meeting ID is 895 3793 7040, and the passcode is 292353.  (This link information is always the same;  you can add it to your calendar.)

To Use the Meetinghouse or Grounds for a Small Meeting

Adelphi’s facilities are open for small indoor meetings or somewhat larger outdoor meetings.  These guidelines must be followed for usage.  To reserve a space, please contact our resident Joseph Ndayisenga at resident@adelphifriends.org.  Keep in mind that the meetinghouse is now under re-construction, and much of the space in the White House is taken up with storage for items that were in the meetinghouse.

Bible Study

Friends gather for Bible Study each Wednesday at 7:30 pm via this recurrent Zoom link.  The Meeting ID is 917 6330 4821, and the passcode is 407700.  The group uses Barclay Press's "Illuminate" series of study guides, written by Quakers for Quakers. Beginning September 8, the group will focus on Joshua, Judges, and Ruth.  For more information, contact Mackenzie Morgan via this info in Breeze.
