Hospital Schedules Additional Flu Clinic for Dec. 1
After holding a total of 10 community flu clinics in September through November, UR Medicine F.F. Thompson Hospital has scheduled one additional clinic for Wednesday, Dec. 1.
The clinic will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Thompson Medical Center, 1160 Corporate Drive in Farmington.
Administered to those 9 and older at this clinic, the standard 2021-2022 vaccine provides protection against four flu viruses. This year there is a high-dose flu vaccine for those 65 and older. This contains additional antigen designed to create a stronger immune response in the person getting the vaccine.
Masks are required at the clinic.
As a courtesy, Thompson Health will bill Medicare, MVP products, BlueCross BlueShield products and commercial insurances. Patients must present an insurance card at the time of the visit. The self-pay cost is $40 and $75 for the high-dose vaccine (cash, check, MasterCard or Visa). Call (585) 924-1510 for more information.
Stroke Support Group Meets Via Zoom on Dec. 2
The regional Stroke Support Group hosted by UR Medicine Thompson Health will meet on Thursday, Dec. 2.
The meeting will be held at 1 p.m., via Zoom, and will feature registered nurses Magda Ryszawa and Nathan Riley. The two will discuss “Self Care for the Care Partner.”
Thompson’s monthly support group is open to stroke survivors as well as their loved ones and caregivers. To sign up for the Dec. 2 meeting, email StrokeSupportGroup@urmc.rochester.edu.

Pumpkin Desserts (Not Pie)
Canned pumpkin, pumpkin puree and solid-pack pumpkin are all the same. They are a cooked pumpkin that has been mashed into a smooth pulp. If you are going to make it on your own, the type of pumpkin will determine the actual taste. Those pumpkins you carve for Halloween can be made into puree but the better choice is if you select a variety that has been hybridized for pies. Read More.
