Calabar Gallery represents underserved artists locally and globally: African, African American and Caribbean artists, with the mission of providing a place for community, exhibition, creative initiatives and projects. It provides a venue for them to innovate, sustain, grow and expand ideas, concepts, projects and leverage opportunities by the use of our space, networks and relationships, and a distinctive location in Harlem New York City
This Sunday, November 29, we launch an auction. HOMESICK PHILLY focused on Black Artists in Philadelphia. It's our first collaboration and curating with Chill Moody, a hip hop artist and collector. It will run for 15 days and I encourage you to buy art through this auction - we simply delighted to say that VISIT PHILLY is helping us market the auction via Instagram. This Monday, Prizm Art Fair opens with a virtual art fair and some programming of panels will be onsite and virtual. It is one of the fairs we most enjoy and it's virtual again. Preview some of the work we are showing as well as work in the gallery here.

An exhibition of two Ghanaian artists working innovatively with fabric as painting.
Kwesi Kwarteng is an Ghanaian born artist based in Newark NJ. He mostly works using textiles from various cultures and sewing them to make his pieces. He considers the fabrics as the paint he uses in making these works and sewing as the brush that brings them together. He dyes canvases using different dying processes then combining them with textiles to create his works. Kwesi has a BFA from the School of Visual Arts he’s had two solo exhibitions and taken part in several group exhibitions. His works are in private collections in US, Germany and Ghana.
Winfred Nana Amoah (Hohoe, Ghana) is a Hohoe based artist whose media of practice includes plastics, textiles, used credit cards, research articles, newspapers and acrylic on canvas. Amoah uses these materials to explore personal identities and community belonging, particularly in the contemporary Ghanaian context. Amoah series of mixed media depicts the faces of some of the Hohoe-dwelling people. The faces as a universal concept is a communicative event.
