Weekly Update

Christmas Caroling in Idaho TONIGHT, see below.

This week on Sunday we will begin the season of Advent,
preparing our hearts to celebrate Jesus first coming while remembering that his second coming could be any time.

Please also note - aside from our school, we're not doing much formal outreach in Spokane right now. But you have three excellent opportunities to participate in The Vine outreach activities, listed below. The Christmas season is one of the best times to invite friends and family to church. You can also invite friends and family to our shorter Advent services or to the basketball fun nights starting after Thanksgiving.

Our YouTube channel is the new place to watch our services. Make sure to like and and subscribe to boost our rankings! I don't know who's watching unless you leave a comment.

CALL REMINDER
We extended a call to Mr. Glenn Metzger, currently serving as a 5th-6th grade teacher at St Lucas School in Bayview, WI, to serve as our 5th-6th grade teacher next year. If you would like to send him a short encouraging note, by all means send an email to Glenn_fi@hotmail.com.

RACHEL TAASAAS CALL
Miss Taasaas has received a call to serve as a teacher at Lakewood Lutheran School in Lakewood, WA.  Please keep her in your prayers as she deliberates this call along with the call she currently holds at St. Matthew, and give her feedback as you feel led.

SUNDAY SEATING REMINDER
Please remember to reserve the last two pews in the back of the church for those who have limited mobility, those with toddlers, and late arrivals. Ideally, try to fill up the church from the front! You can do it!

BASKETBALL FUN NIGHTS FOR ADULTS
GET OFF THE COUCH, EVEN IN WINTER! We will be organizing basketball fun nights as a chance for recreation, exercise, and fun with others during the dark days of winter. Location: First Church of the Nazarene Gym. When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:00-6:30 pm. Beginning the week after Thanksgiving. Open to high schoolers and older. It will continue through January, taking a break over Christmas. Bring friends if you like. You need not commit to every week, but the more you come the more fun it will be. See Erika Rosenbaum with questions!

CDA CHRISTMAS PARADE FLOAT
---WAS A LOT OF FUN. Share the joy by participating in one of the other The Vine outreach events if you couldn't this week.

CHRISTMAS CAROLING IN IDAHO 11/27 & 12/4 - UPDATED INFO
The Vine will be caroling at New Leaf Nursery on Saturday November 27th from 5:30-7:30 pm.  Please meet at The Vine Church at 4:30 pm to warm up and do a run through.  Bring your dinner as we will save a short time to eat before driving over.  We have a second opportunity to sing after the Hayden Parade on 12/4.  We will sing from 6:30-7:30 pm  All are invited to join in the festivities.
Please email Christine Slater at pinkcamomommy@gmail.com to be emailed the music.  You can call Christine at 602-228-3206 with any questions.  We will be singing well known Christian Christmas Carols.  Adults and children are all welcome.

HAYDEN CHRISTMAS PARADE FLOAT
The Vine will also be entering a float in the Hayden Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 4th, at 5:00 pm.  If you can walk the parade route with their float, or manage the tent and bonfire in front of our church, please let one of the pastors know.  We can organize a car pool from Spokane. All are invited.

ADVENT WORSHIP
We will have three Wednesday Advent services beginning December 1st.  We will have services both at 3:45 and 6:30 p.m. to accommodate school families and those who want to attend an earlier service.  Christmas can be a busy or stressful time and these services ae designed to bring the peace of Christ into your life and help us remember the reason for this season.

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS WORSHIP SERVICES
Our children’s Christmas services will be held on Sunday afternoon, December 12th.   The Preschool Service begins at 2:30 p.m. and the Elementary School Service at 4:00 p.m.  The children of our Preschool, Elementary School and Sunday School will present the Christmas Gospel in Word and song.  You are invited to join them in worship at the manger of Bethlehem and give praise to Jesus the Savior.  These services are also a wonderful opportunity for you to invite your friends to come with you to hear about Jesus their Savior.

YOUTH GROUP LOCK-IN
A youth group lock-in is being planned for New Year’s Eve.  Please speak with Pastor West or Lance Barton for information, suggestions, or to volunteer. In particular we would like a group of volunteers to come in early, say four or five in the morning.  We already have a few volunteers who will stay up late.  We also need to know who might attend. We have several volunteers now, we just need kids to commit. We also received permission from teachers to use their classrooms.

CHIEFS GAME 12/4
The info for our first Chief's game is attached below. Note that proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test is required for attendance.

A GOD-LIVED LIFE STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM
Dec 5 - A Life of Hospitality
Jan 8 - A Shrewdly Lived Life
You will find personal commitment cards with explanations in your mailbox at church.

READ THE BIBLE IN 2022
We will have a "read through the Bible" group meeting Monday nights at 6:30pm in 2022. If you want to participate, you should go ahead and buy "The One Year Bible: Arranged in 365 Readings, NIV edition." If you'd like to propose a second time to meet each week, I'd be glad to do that if we can get a handful of people to commit to attending regularly. Please note, this is not a normal Bible study. We will all read the Bible about 15 minutes each day and then discuss a week's worth of readings when we meet.

There are plenty of other Bibles out there. The Bartons have enjoyed the "One Year Chronological Bible". Consider asking for or giving such a gift for Christmas.
PRAYER CONCERNS:
  • Continue to pray for our home-bound members: Maria Baerman, Carol Taylor, Carole Boyette, Christine Glardon, Chuck and Jean Johnson, Beverly Van Epps, and Louise Scherschel.
  • The Vine's offer on a building in Hayden
  • Glen Metzger as he deliberates a call to teach here
  • Rachel Taasaas as she deliberates a call
  • The Thaemerts who are a little sick after attending Dale's brother's funeral. Also thank God for their 65 years of marriage!
  • Let God move people to attend church this Christmas season and make that possible by keeping COVID numbers low
  • Ask God to intervene so that we are able to get our second modular in a timely enough manner to retain our current student body without having to turn any away.
  • All the people in your life who need prayer
BIBLE VERSE of the week

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

- John 8:34-36
