November 2021

The SDGs and the movement to harness the data revolution for sustainable development have raised the political profile of data, but has it translated into increased investments to reap all their benefits?

According to the 2021 release of PARIS21’s PRESS report, the most comprehensive global analysis of donor financial flows to data and statistics, more work is needed. Total funds to statistics in 2020 were estimated to be USD 624 million or only 0.34 percent of total official development assistance. The report also documents information on funding flows to gender data, CRVS, and other key sectors.

Improving statistical systems will require partnership and an increase in investment from domestic resources, official development assistance, and philanthropic and private sector players. We will continue to work with our partners to build the case for more and smarter investment in data.
