Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women and Children

As SCWCA gears up for its holiday show, “Endings and Beginnings,” we continue our tradition of partnering with local organizations at this time of year to brighten the lives of Los Angeles women in need.

This year we join hands with the Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women and Children, whose mission is to empower families “to move from homelessness to self-sufficiency through housing, employment and support services offered with dignity and love.”  The Center provides up to two years of housing and supportive services, touching the lives of more than 1500 women and children each year.

As artists, we understand the connection between art and the struggle these families experience.  We have been told that the following supplies would be greatly appreciated:

  •      canvas or canvas boards
  •      acrylic paint
  •      paint brushes
  •      crafting kits
  •      color pencils
  •      therapeutic coloring books

In addition, the Center is in desperate need of an ice machine.  They are looking at a model costing roughly $580 and would be thrilled to receive financial contributions toward this purchase.

In-kind donations can be delivered or shipped to Good Shepherd Center, 1650 Rockwood Street, Los Angeles CA 90026.  Deliveries should be made Monday-Friday, between 9 AM and 5 PM.  For your convenience, donations can also be dropped off at the West Los Angeles address of Cathy Engel-Marder by December 20 (culturelink1@yahoo.com for directions). Financial donations can be mailed to the Rockwood Street address or made online at gschomeless.org.
As we explore the concept of endings and beginnings though our creative work, let’s also support the Good Shepherd Center in its mission to end homelessness and help families begin a life of hope.

SCWCA's  Position on Equality
SCWCA’s mission is to create community through art, education, and social activism. Hate and bigotry have no place in our organization. We condemn these racist, violent acts in the strongest possible terms and encourage our members to do so as well. We stand in solidarity with all those who suffer from fear, harassment, and violence.

Part of our mission as an organization is activism, so we stand with the Black Lives Matter and Stop AAPI Hate movements because we believe that all humans are connected.
