COMMUNITY CENTRE NEWS

A Christmas Message from the
Katikati Community Centre Board

2021 is nearly at an end and it has been a challenge for everyone in the community and at the Centre. As a Board, we thank our manager, staff and volunteers who stepped up to the task of continuing to provide our services to support the community in times of lockdown where we could. Over the year, when life was a little easier in level 2 and now orange, we were able to carry on with our work to support the community as well as introduce our new services successfully.

We hope that 2022 will be a better year for everyone. Please remember, the Centre is there to support you all and we will continue through thick and thin or perhaps we should say through orange, red and green.

We send you our season’s greetings and best wishes for the coming year.

Katikati Community Centre Board

Merry Christmas and Thank You All for Your Support

The team at the Katikati Community Centre would like to thank you for your continued support throughout 2021.  It has been a challenging year and we’ve been committed to providing services regardless of the alert level or traffic light status and we’re committed to expanding our outreach.

New team announcement
We’ll be launching a second site in February next year when we expand our youth and social services team.  We’ll be open for business at our new Main Road location starting in February. Watch this space!

New staff and staff changes
We’re appointing new staff to our School Holiday Programme and KatiKids After School Care Programme and look forward to introducing them to the community next year.  We’re also making changes within our teams and front of house at the Community Centre so we’ll keep you updated.

Covid Response
Katikati is amazing for the way our community works collaboratively and the Covid 19 lockdown this year was just one example of great teamwork. It was a privilege to work with you all.  Our focus for 2022 will be on ensuring we can run as many of our services as possible whether we’re in a green, orange or red traffic light and we’re one of the social service providers who have agreed to assist Government to support those self-isolating in the Katikati area.

Big thanks 😊
A huge thanks to the team at the Community Centre who are all dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives at the Heart of our Community.  I’d also like to thank Board members past, present and future as we transition from an Incorporated Society to a Charitable Trust for all the work you’ve done and goodwill you’ve given to help our Centre flourish now, and in the future.

Wishing you all a safe and relaxing holiday season.

Katikati Drop-in Community Breakfasts Update

The weekly Breakfasts continue to provide a hearty breakfast and a social connection for attendees. The Community Breakfast Team would like to thank all of the volunteers, donors and local businesses for supporting the Breakfasts including;

Community Breakfasts: These take place each Thursday morning and start back in 2022 on 10th February.  Volunteers help to set up for breakfast, welcome attendees, help to cook and serve food,  have breakfast and chat to those attending.  Volunteers need to come at 6.45am, cooked breakfast starts to be served 7.30am.
Age Concern:  is looking for volunteers to be companions to older people.  This involves catching up with them, usually once a week to spend some time together. Full training is given and volunteers are matched to those with similar interests.
Waipuna Hospice and BABS Op shop:  These Op shops would love to recruit some new volunteers to help in their shops. Full training is given, you can volunteer for as short or as long a period as suits and fit this round your other commitments. You don’t have to find someone to cover if you can’t make it!

Interested in any of these opportunities? Give Isabel a call on Thursday afternoons at the Community Centre on 07 549 0399 or email volunteering@katikaticommunity.nz

Curate Church volunteers recently dropped off 50 Gift of Groceries boxes of pantry staples and Christmas treats to the Katikati Community Centre. These boxes are being delivered to homes of families in Katikati and Waihi Beach by our local support agencies Katikati Christian Foodbank, Tamawhariua Social Services, Katikati Maori Wardens and Waihi Beach School.
