When did you first start working for Dreamland?
I started working for Dreamland mid April after getting referred to the company through Bre Neff. I had been living in Kanab for 7 months at the time.
Where are you originally from?
Originally I am from northwest Ohio and moved to Cleveland after High School. Eventually, I started traveling full-time and ended up in the southwest.
What's your favorite Dreamland tour?
My favorite Dreamland tour is White Pocket. I like the variety of formations and colors. White Pocket's composition is unlike anything I've seen elsewhere.
If money was no object, what would you do all day?
If money wasn't an object I'd be traveling the world exploring different mountain ranges and learning about other cultures first hand and their history. I also wouldn't be driving a Ford Focus.
If you could live anywhere EXCEPT for the desert Southwest, where would you want to live?
This question is hard to answer because I don't have the desire to live anywhere permanently. Places I'd choose would include Lake Tahoe, CA, Western Las Vegas, and Northern Utah.
Can you share one of your favorite memories that you've made while guiding/working for Dreamland?
The conversations I have with the guests are what I hold on to. I have enjoyed teaching others about the areas we tour as well as hearing stories and learning from other seasoned travelers.
Here’s what our guests say about Ian:
"Our guide, Ian was so knowledgeable of the terrain, mountains and trails. He took us to places, that if we were on our own we’d never experience!"
"We had a spectacular time on our White Pocket tour with Ian today. The sites we saw were unbelievable! At times it was sensory overload, we didn’t know where to look first! Ian was knowledgeable about the area and the different types of rock formations. Ian showed us a lot of great photo opportunities and became our personal photographer when asked. This was a 5-star experience!"
"Ian was very thoughtful and careful to point out things easily missed by my untrained eye. His geological knowledge was extensive. Without his narrative of the geological history of the area I would never have been able to fully appreciate what I was looking at. "
"Guide Ian was knowledgeable, personable, and conscientious, making this once-in-a-lifetime trip even better."
Ian — thank you for showing up day after day with your passion and skill. We’re proud to count you amongst the Dream Team and will be sad for the day when Kanab no longer is your home!
