Celebrating An Amazing Life and Remembering A Great Man

Reverend Albert U. Gesler, Jr.
(January 9,1935 - December 5, 2021)

God Bless your kind soul for all your good deeds.

It is with great sadness we recognize the passing of Reverend Albert Gesler, Jr., Meals on Wheels Erie's Founder, mentor and dedicated Board Member. We will miss this wonderful man who did so much for not only our organization, but the entire Erie Community. His memory will live on as we honor him with delivering his vision everyday.

Thoughts and prayers continue for his family and the thousands of people whose lives he touched.

Meals on Wheels Erie Awarded
2021 Outstanding Philanthropic Organization

Meals on Wheels Erie's Board President Barbara Brairton and Executive Director Wendy Wallace accepted an award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals NWPA Chapter on November 16th at Gannon University. The award was presented at an annual event held in celebration of National Philanthropy Day. AFP President David Schmacher was the master of ceremonies and he generously took time to highlight our organization's 50 year history in the Erie Community with special care to recognize our Founder. We dedicate this beautiful award to Reverend Al Gesler.

In the Market for a New Vehicle
or Have a Friend Who Is?

It's that time of year again to help us Share the Love!

Through January 3, 2022, for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased, Subaru will donate $250 to the customer’s choice of participating charities.* Meals on Wheels is one of four national participating charities and has been since the inception of the event. Through this event, as a member of Meals on Wheels America, Meals on Wheels Erie will receive a share of the donation from Subaru vehicles sold at participating Subaru Retailers.

You might not be in the market to purchase a new car, but if you are, please look into the
Subaru Share the Love Event to learn more. If you’re not shopping for a new vehicle, you can still help by spreading the word to your family and friends.

And remember: this holiday season you can ensure our senior neighbors are not forgotten, when you purchase or lease a new Subaru and select Meals on Wheels as your charity of choice.

*Disclaimer: Subaru will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased from November 18, 2021, through January 3, 2022, to four national charities designated by the purchaser or lessee. Pre-approved Hometown Charities may be selected for donation depending on retailer participation. For every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased during the campaign period, participating retailers will donate a minimum of $50 in total to their registered Hometown Charities. Purchasers/lessees must make their charity designations by January 14, 2022. The four national charities will receive a guaranteed minimum donation of $250,000 each. See your local Subaru retailer for details or visit subaru.com/share. All donations made by Subaru of America, Inc.

Veteran's Program Expands Due to Grant from the
Erie Elks Lodge 67
We are so grateful for the generous donation of $5,500 from the local Erie Elks Lodge. Wendy Wallace accepted a check from Exalted Ruler, Bob Westgate in November. This gift will allow us to deliver 2 meals per day to 3 local Veterans for one year. Also, and for many most importantly, these Veterans will receive 260 friendly visits from our dedicated volunteers. We currently proudly deliver meals to 15 Veterans in our
Veterans Meal Program.
Please remember to select Metro-Erie Meals on Wheels, Inc. (DBA: Meals on Wheels Erie) as your charity of choice when doing your holiday shopping.

Volunteer Spotlight

Each month we would like to shine the spotlight on volunteers who go above and beyond and give them a special thank you. This month we would like to shine the spotlight on:

Nancy Dingfelder

We would like to recognize Nancy Dingfelder who is an amazing grocery shopping and delivery volunteer in the Corry Area. She, with a mind for detail and a kind heart, breezes selflessly through the Sanders Market in Corry almost every week for her clients who recently commented, "She is just a terrific lady. We just love her!" Thank you Nancy for all you do for Meals on Wheels Erie and our clients! We appreciate you more than words can say!

Thank you Nancy for your dedication to Meals on Wheels Erie!
