SpreadingHolidayCheer
From our festive stockings, ugly Christmas sweaters, and cozy work-from-home setups to yours -- we wish you a very happy holiday season filled with love, joy, and most of all: rest!
As 2021 comes to a close, here are some resources to usher in the new year with extra cheer and intentionality:
Celebrating the Holidays
Hannukah (November 28th - December 6th, 2021)
Though the 8-day "Festival of Lights" concluded earlier this month, here are some of the top East Bay restaurants and markets for delicious kosher food year-round.
All about Christmas - learn how Christmas has been celebrated across time periods, cultures, and geographies. Explore the origins of Santa, Christmas trees, and even, fruitcake!
Live Santa Tracker - check out Santa's ETA as you get those cookies, milk, and carrots ready!
The History and Traditions of Kwanzaa - founded by the chair of CSU Long Beach's Black Studies department in 1966 following the Watts riots in LA, this 7-day celebration centers the values of African culture and brings its diaspora communities in the US together: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.
CWN elected an almost entirely new leadership team this year, and we would like to introduce ourselves to you! We will be featuring a different chair every newsletter so you can get to know us.

Position on Campus: Visitor Coordinator Position in CWN: Recorder/Historian Chair LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/martinamaven Time at UC Berkeley: 2 years
What motivated you to join CWN, and what do you want to accomplish in your role?
I was born and raised in a country where womxn’s roles are fixed and opportunities are limited. At Berkeley, we have so much more space to be, transform and support each other. I love being part of the motivated, generous and tireless CWN team, serving womxn on campus. I am happy to support the team in creating networking, educational and professional development opportunities, as well as space for womxn on campus to just be themselves, grow and help one another.
What is a hobby or activity that helped you cope during the pandemic and stay at home orders?
Reading fiction and taking UC Extension classes.
Pets of CWN

Let’s share the love with fun pet photos!

Origin Story: Facebook Puggle Rescue (we didn't know he wasn't a puggle for a long time after we got him).
Favorite Toy: He's afraid of toys and balls. I guess his favorite toy is anything edible!
Fun Fact: Cooper is afraid of flies (and fly swatters). he will hide when he hears a fly - but go figure, he chases bees outside.

CWN Cook-along with Wellness Program Dietician,
Kim Guess, January 20th, 2022
New year, new healthy recipes! If you want to catch up with your colleagues in a fun and health-minded way, learn useful skills, and eat tasty food, join us for a virtual cook-along on Thursday, January 20th from noon to 1:00 pm. If you’d rather not cook-along, you can prepare the recipes later, or just hang out and socialize via Zoom too. We’ll prepare two simple and nutritious recipes using ingredients that you may already have. The grocery list is provided ahead of the event so you have time to acquire any ingredients you don’t already have on hand. If possible, join the Zoom call 10 minutes early to say hi and gather your ingredients and equipment. Look for this invitation and Zoom link on bCal soon!
To better provide you with more recent job postings, CWN will be sending recruitment posts once a week rather than in our monthly newsletter. If you’d like to advertise an opportunity, please send it to calwomxn@berkeley.edu.
We want to hear from you!
Please submit an upcoming event, job posting, or resource you would like featured in CWN's next newsletter.
