Your February and March
CEC Institute:
Benchmarking Training
Sign Up for the Training
We are gearing up for Hudson Valley Regional Council’s February and March Clean Energy Communities Institute. In February and March, we will focus on Benchmarking – eligible for up to 300 points (or more for some communities) in the NYSERDA Clean Energy Communities Program. These sessions are our first in-person cohort-style training sessions of the CEC Institute, designed to make Clean Energy High Impact Actions accessible to communities. We’d love to see you there!

Why Benchmarking?
Have you been wanting to save on municipal energy costs, but are not sure where to start? Do you think at least some of your municipal buildings are wasting energy? If any of these questions apply to you, HVRC’s CEC Institute on Benchmarking is a good fit for you! We have designed it to help your community answer all these questions.

Over one in-person* session in February and one virtual session in March, with additional troubleshooting assistance in office hours between sessions, we will give you all the tools and support you need to complete two CEC High Impact Actions: Benchmarking – Municipal Buildings and Benchmarking – Advanced Reporting, eligible for up to 300 CEC points. Sessions are open to municipal elected officials, staff, and appointed volunteers who can work with municipal staff to receive utility bills.

Session 1: Wednesday, February 16 from 10am-11:30am - In-person at Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries, Beacon, NY**

You will:
1. Learn how to navigate Portfolio Manager, including how to add properties, add meters, and upload data either manually or in templated spreadsheet format.
2. Complete benchmarking for one of your municipal buildings, with hands-on assistance from your CEC Coordinator.
3. Learn what additional benefits benchmarking provides beyond CEC points.
4. Understand how to share properties with us to facilitate the office hours and session two.

* Precautions against COVID-19 will be observed, including maximum capacity and mask wearing.
** Can’t make the in-person session, but still want to participate in the cohort training? You may sign up for a 1-hour training session with your CEC Coordinator (see our contact information below) to get caught up before the second session. We will also host two office hours sessions in between the two sessions for additional troubleshooting.

Office Hours - Virtual: Wednesday, March 9 from 12pm-1pm and Tuesday, March 15 from 12-1pm

Session 2 – Virtual: Tuesday, March 22 from 12-1pm

You will:
  1. Learn how to set up Portfolio Manager to make understanding energy data about your properties simple.
  2. Create a report from the energy use data you’ve entered about your municipal building(s).
  3. Learn how to get credit for the Benchmarking-Advanced Reporting CEC High Impact Action, including:
    1. Posting the Advanced Report to your municipal webpage
    2. Grouping and sharing buildings with NYSERDA
    3. How and where to submit your documentation
  4. Evaluate which of your buildings have high energy intensity and are most likely in need of energy efficiency work.

Mid-Hudson CEC Coordinators
Remind me, what is the CEC Institute?
As the Mid-Hudson representative for the NYSERDA Clean Energy Communities Program, the Hudson Valley Regional Council is pleased to introduce the Clean Energy Communities Institute (CECI). Our goal for this Institute is to walk you step-by-step through the CEC High-Impact Actions and how to accomplish them. Over the next year, we will be focusing on a single High Impact Action each month, providing action-oriented webinars, testimonials, in-person cohort-style workshops, and useful content.

The CEC Institute tri-fold brochure, hyperlinked here and visible below, provides a month-by-month overview of how we plan to get you over the finish line for each Action. All content will be sent straight to your inbox. By the end of the Institute, you will be able to take action to reduce municipal and community energy costs, and access grant funding through the completion of CEC High Impact Actions.
The CEC Institute will not replace the one-on-one technical assistance you have come to expect from HVRC Clean Energy Communities Coordinators. Rather, it will supplement that assistance, connecting you with additional resources and powerful case studies. We are excited to embark on this new endeavor with you and to continue supporting all Hudson Valley municipalities.
