Deep into the Christmas season, we recall the words from Isaiah 9 where the Christ-child is promised: “…and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” In a world that feels deeply in need of all of these attributes, there is comfort in this season of remembrance and celebration. God was not content to watch humankind struggle from afar, but instead came among us, the Creator amongst the created, Emmanuel, God with Us.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, may we all take time to be grateful for the gift of Christ and to embrace the hope, joy, peace, and love that God has given to each one of us.

Merry Christmas!

Thank you for Supporting BST on Giving Tuesday!

Thank you to so many of you who answered our call for Giving Tuesday and made it a successful day for us! We are eternally grateful for your support as we seek to help our students transform their world.

As the 2021 Calendar year draws to a close you may not have gotten the chance to support Berkeley School of Theology yet. We’ve recently mailed out our year-end support letter outlining some of the many exciting things happening here at BST and we ask that you consider donating as you make your end-of-the-year gifts.

BST Celebrates Alan Roselius and Sam Park

During our Christmas celebration, as we do each year, we celebrated those who reached another five-year anniversary here at BST. This year we were pleased to honor faculty member, Dr. Sam Park, for his fifteen years of service, alongside, Mr. Alan Roselius, Assoc. Director of Grounds and Facilities, for serving BST 35 years. Each was given a special gift chosen by their supervisor and received warm and gracious comments from the whole BST family, thanking them for their abiding commitment.

Thank you Alan and Sam for your many years of dedicated service to BST!

Tax-benefit Reminder for Giving to BST

If you turned 70 ½ in 2020 (b. 1950), you are eligible to take advantage of a tax law called the Qualified Charity Donation (QCD) this calendar year (2021) to give to BST. QCD’s have been in place since 2005. The QCD gifting option allows you, starting at age 70½, to instruct your IRA administrator to direct IRA distributions—up to $100,000 per year — to a qualified 501(c)(3) charity like BST. Because the IRA income goes directly to the charity (i.e., the draw-check cannot be made out to you), you do not report the QCD as taxable income and do not owe any taxes on the QCD. This process must be initiated by you and your IRA custodian. If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact a BST Advancement team member here.
