INBAR’s Resource Centre houses the latest research, assessments and policy studies conducted by INBAR as part of our ongoing project work, or as a contribution to our main focus areas. In 2021, INBAR published almost 60 new reports. Between October and December, new publications include:

INBAR's report of international trade in bamboo and rattan products for 2019, based on an analysis of UN Comtrade data. This report was produced by INBAR in its role as the International Commodity Body for bamboo and rattan. Read here.

BAMBOO AND RATTAN IN THE NEWS
INBAR collates news from around the world about bamboo and rattan sector development. Recent international coverage of bamboo and rattan has included:
- Bamboo cooling solution for urban areas. French firm AREP has developed a low-tech bamboo cooling system which could replace air conditioning in urban areas. Read the article in DesignBoom.
- New rattan car material developed. According to Automotive Daily, Germany company Out for Space has developed “the next green car material” using rattan. Read more here.
- China pitches regional bamboo carbon trading schemes. In December, China’s central government released guidelines urging local authorities to establish pilot trading markets for bamboo-backed carbon offsets. Read more here. (Carbon Pulse subscription required.)
- Communities in Uganda use bamboo to hold back worsening floods. By slowing floodwater and stabilising riverbanks, bamboo walls could protect farmers in Uganda from climate change-worsened floods, and earn them extra income, according to an article published in Thomson Reuters.
- Interview on bamboo construction's climate change potential. The last few months have seen a number of articles about bamboo construction. In November, ArchDaily interviewed architect and long-term friend of INBAR Pablo van der Lugt about bamboo’s potential for construction. Read more here.
- The Dominican Republic holds a bamboo seminar. On 16 November the Dominican Republic held its first international bamboo seminar. Its aim was to generate alliances in order to spur the development of the Dominican Republic’s bamboo sector. Read more in Spanish here.
- Bamboo housing in Asia. This article by CNN summarises some of the key bamboo construction initiatives taking place in Indonesia and the Philippines, including IBUKU Studio and Earl Forlale’s award-winning housing design. Read more here.
- Bamboo housing featured at COP 26. Green School’s famous ‘Heart of School’ structure was part of a virtual exhibition about low-carbon living at the climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland this November. See the exhibition here.
- Nestlé to plant 3.5 million bamboo plants in the Philippines. Nestlé made the pledge as part of the company's Forest Positive strategy. Read the press release here.
- Restoring land with bamboo in Cameroon. The national media outlet CRTV Centre released a ten-minute video of INBAR’s ongoing project work. Watch here.
