Newsletter // December 2021

Dear Families and Friends,

Having successfully completed our Final Assessments for the Fall Semester, we can now reflect on the past months. We are all very proud of the students for their creativity, perseverance, and effort towards studying to achieve the very best results they could.

This year, we changed the format of our assessment schedule to include open office hours for each of the teachers in the afternoon, which has been a great success. It allowed teachers and students to meet individually or in small groups to clarify their understanding. I hope they are all proud of their achievements.

Wishing you all very happy holidays, and a 2022 that is filled with good health, great happiness, and many more exciting adventures.

Happy Holidays,

Mel
Head of School

A Final Showcase
At the beginning of December, Elementary students went on their annual excursion to a natural park with the purpose of finding their Caga Tió. This tradition helps all of our students, no matter where they are from,  connect to the local Catalan culture. This year they went to Cardedeu and explored the Montseny region.

For the rest of the month, Elementary students focused on how they could share their learning from the second Unit of Inquiry.  This reflective process came to a very exciting conclusion as a final showcase for parents and other students to enjoy.

Students demonstrated their learning in a variety of ways. First, they wrote a script in Spanish, and they also wrote children's books that combined all of the different things they learned in the unit. Additionally, each student wrote and illustrated an original story with inspiration taken from discoveries and ideas about nature.

The entire Elementary school voted and chose one story to present in the form of a dramatic play. From there, they created backdrops and props to bring their show to life.

On the day of the Student Showcase, students shared their stories and dramas with the audience before performing seasonal songs and poems in Spanish and Catalan. Finally, they all shared chocolate and churros (and our Caga Tió) with our community members.

What an exciting end to an educational and eventful semester!

A Tight Race!
With all of the Spirit Points for the Fall Semester in and counted, we are proud to present the final tally. Congratulations to the Black Tigers for coming out on top! Remember, this is still anyone's game to win, and there will be many more opportunities to demonstrate your skills, values, and excellence throughout the Spring Semester.

We are proud of your effort and dedication! Keep up the AMAZING work teams!
Examples of Student Excellence
At the end of the Fall Semester, students in Ms. Wynne's history classes are asked to create very extensive final projects before they taking their final exams. These projects give students the chance to demonstrate their various artistic, creative, and critical thinking skills.
Although there were many examples of excellent work, we would like to highlight some very special documentary films, posters, and sculptures. Please click the links below to enjoy some very well-crafted videos.
