Thank you for your continued participation in the different initiatives of the regional Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene group for Latin America and the Caribbean. Regional Refugee and Migrant Response Plan (RMRP 2022)
R4V - Latin America and the Caribbean are witness to the largest flow of refugees and migrants in the region’s history. More than six million refugees and migrants from Venezuela have left their country of origin, with more than five million being hosted in the region. The COVID-19 pandemic has deepened pre-existing inequalities and increased the vulnerability of refugees and migrants in society. The effects on the living conditions, security, dignity and health of refugees and migrants from Venezuela and their host communities have been dramatic.

OCHA - This section includes information by country in Latin America and the Caribbean, specifically the countries with a Humanitarian Response Plan (PRH) / Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) - Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras and Venezuela, also You will find this graph that shows that the number of people with humanitarian needs in Latin America and the Caribbean almost tripled during the last three years, reaching close to 30 million people in 2022.

Xploration Coastline
"A mobile source of freshwater for the Caribbean in the aftermath of a disaster"
|

OCEANS X - Xploration Coastline is a rapid response (easy to relocate) floating desalination plant producing >1000m3 of freshwater everyday solution, providing an asset for Humanitarian Disaster Relief Operators and Armed Forces in support of their mission: support coastal communities and critical infrastructure like healthcare and agriculture worldwide suffering from acute water stress.
Ongoing joint efforts between experts from PAHO, UNICEF, the Dutch army, the Regional WaSH LAC Group and Donors are being undertaken to implement this innovative solution for the Caribbean.

CARE International announces tender for a project in Cuba
CARE International, The world confederation that works to eradicate poverty worldwide, has announced the opening of a bidding process for the project entitled “Resilient Basin: a multi-risk and inclusive Early Warning System (EWS) in the Cuyaguateje Basin, which favors disaster preparedness in Cuba ”, which is co-financed by the European Union.

High and Dry: Climate Change, Water and the Economy
WBG -This report highlights how the impacts of climate change will be channeled primarily through the water cycle, with consequences that could be large and uneven across the globe. Water-related climate risks cascade through food, energy, urban, and environmental systems. Growing populations, rising incomes, and expanding cities will converge upon a world where the demand for water rises exponentially, while supply becomes more erratic and uncertain.

"IADB - Caribbean Water Study"
This IADB technical note will serve as a reference document and as a key guide for prioritizing improvements needed by water utilities in the Caribbean, identifying amongst others their level of resilience in the face of natural disasters.
The countries covered are Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Lucia, Suriname and Trinidad &Tobago.
The study reveals the critical importance of investing in WaSH Preparedness and Information Management Systems with a direct impact on climate change adaptation through the reduction of Non-Revenue Water .

Market-Based Programming for WASH in Emergencies - Distance Learning Course
We are pleased to inform you that, with the support of UNICEF, Save the Children, and the Humanitarian Leadership Academy, the GWC has developed the Market Based Programming for WASH in Emergencies distance learning course.
This training is part of the GWC training pathways for WASH Cluster partners programme staff and WASH cluster coordination to ensure effective WASH coordination and programming in humanitarian contexts.
This course duration is 4 weeks, with dedication within 2 to 3 hours, 5 days a week, for the whole duration of the training. The course will start on 17th January 2022.

Humanitarian WASH Master Degree - Second call for applications in English
The German Jordanian University (GJU), in partnership with Action Against Hunger and Bioforce, has launched a call for applications for the second cohort of the WASH Master program, starting in February 2022.
The call for applications will be open from 28th November 2021 to 13th January 2022. The program is open to both Jordanian and international students, with a limited number of full scholarships available for selected applicants.
