E-bulletin - 15th December 2021

Message from Andrew Yates, Chair, Cornwall Faith Forum

Dear Cornwall Faith Forum (CFF) Member/Friend

For those of you who were not able to join us at our recent Annual Meeting, here are a few updates.

CFF Trustees
Our Trustees for the next year remain the same.  So many thanks to Kathy Pope, Philomena Clifford, Dureid Rifai, Babs Rounsevell and Eve Salthouse for continuing with me in this role. And also a huge thanks from us all to Malcolm Bowers for his service as treasurer. Malcolm is looking to hand on the treasurer-ship – so if there is someone in your community who might be interested in finding out what is involved please get in touch with him. There is an offer to shadow the role so they would not be thrown in totally at the deep end!

Dor Kemmyn Questionnaire
Covid has affected us in so many ways on a personal and community level. In our Building For Peace strand things are different in several ways which means we need to revisit our original vision for the Centre for Faith and Peace such as:
  • Many Faith Communities have found they are able to worship on the internet without the need to be always together in one space.
  • The world of grants and funders is very different with a switch in priorities towards the impact of Covid
  • The Forest For Cornwall project has planted trees covering half of the Dor Kemmyn field and so opening the possibility of partnership working on some form of building on the site.
Paul Green is helping us to work out the best way forward for our vision to create opportunities for us to meet together to share Our Common Ground. We would like to canvas as many people as possible for their views on this important decision for us as a Forum.  Please complete the short questionnaire below and encourage others to do so before the end of January.  A paper version is also available HERE

I am hoping early in the New Year we can meet the new Chair of the Bereavement Services Committee who oversee Penmount to explain our links with the place. And we will look to call a special meeting in the Spring to consider the responses and we will endeavour to make this a hybrid meeting – with both physical and zoom options.

Faith Covenant
The Faith Covenant is a joint commitment between faith communities and local authorities to a set of principles that guide engagement, aiming to remove some of the mistrust that exists and to promote open, practical working on all levels.

A copy of the text of the Covenant can be viewed at https://www.faithandsociety.org/covenant/

It has been suggested that this would be a good thing for Cornwall and an initial conversation with representatives from Cornwall Council was very positive. The Covenant was endorsed enthusiastically by those attending the CFF AGM and we are now sending to the Executive for comments and approval. We hope to take this further in the New Year with a possible ‘signing’  event in April. If you have any issues with this proposal please could you let me know before January 6th.

Faith Speakers Wanted !
Our work with schools and colleges is beginning to start again and so we are looking for additional Faith Speakers who would be willing to go into schools or present on-line to talk about their faith and why it is important to be someone who holds and practises a faith. Prospect of speaking to a class might sound daunting – but full training and preparation will be given by Rita and there is a great sense of fellowship by doing this alongside members of the other faith communities. Do get in touch with Rita to volunteer or find out more.  Dorkemmyn.rita@btinternet.com

Good News Stories
We are always looking for good news stories to share in our bulletin. So if you have details of an event coming up or something to share with the wider Forum then please get in touch with Rosey at Cornwall.FaithForum@truro.anglican.org

In the meantime may I wish you all joy and peace at this time of Christmas and looking forward seeing you virtually or in-person in 2022.

Best wishes

Andrew

The Cornish Christmas Giving Catalogue - there's still time to donate online and receive an electronic certificate.

The Cornish Christmas Giving Catalogue features many worthy local groups and charities who are all working in Cornwall to provide assistance, support, activities, beds and more to people in our own community.

This year you can choose from 20 Cornish charities to donate to and in return you will receive a gift certificate (printed or digital) to pass on to your family member or friend. Gifts start from just £1 up to £100, which would pay for meals for a month from a foodbank.

Paul Green, Project Development Manager for Cornwall Independent Poverty Forum, said:  “The Cornish Christmas Giving Catalogue 2021 provides a great opportunity for you to make a positive difference to people who need most help. In a season of goodwill, the catalogue allows you to give wonderful gifts to family and friends, whilst helping local organisations provide support to the most needy in Cornwall.”

How it works

Select one (or more) of the organisations in the catalogue and decide how much you wish to donate, then either order by post or online. The deadline for postal orders is December 17, 2021 and the deadline for online orders is December 22, 2021.
