School News
Class of 2023 Class Rings
11 graders may now order their 2023 Class Rings!  Jostens is starting a little early to allow you to get LOCKED INTO THIS YEARS PRICING. Prices will go up on January 1st. Placing your order in now with a deposit will lock you into the lower prices AND allow you to be eligible for...  A free gift with purchase if you order on or before December 14th!  3 ways to order: Go online to JOSTEN.COM and design/order your ring. You may make a deposit, or pay in full. OR bring in your Jostens.com order form to school on December 14th during lunch $100 deposit gets you started. Middle School Tech Return:
Good evening middle school families.  Middle school learners are required to return all YACS technology to campus from Tuesday, December 14 to Friday, December 18 for storage.  This includes Chromebooks, Chromebook chargers, and hotspots.   Fees are as follows: lost or damaged Chromebook charger $15, broken Chromebook screen $150, lost Chromebook, $300, lost or damaged hotspot $60.  Cash or money order.  Direct your questions to tech@yacs.org.
School Culture Reminders
As the cold days are upon us, we would like to remind you about acceptable outerwear for the school day.  Students are only allowed to wear blue sweatshirts or YACS school/team/club sweatshirts.  YACS sweatshirts can be purchased on campus or our online store https://eastbaystore.com/OFTS9978/Category/All
In very cold weather, students are allowed to wear a coat/jacket over a blue sweatshirt or YACS sweatshirt. 
Effective Tuesday, November 30th all non-approved outerwear will be confiscated upon student arrival.

Just a reminder of our uniform policy.
6th - 8th Grade
Yellow polo with YACS logo
● Navy or plaid uniform shorts, pants, or skirts

9th-10th
Navy blue YACS embroidered oxford or polo style shirt
● Khaki uniform skirt, shorts or pants

11th Grade
White button-down YACS embroidered oxford shirt
● Gold YACS Tie
● Navy YACS Cardigan (Provided by the school)
● Khaki uniform skirt, shorts or pants

Shirts must be long enough to tuck in and remain tucked in at all times.


Students are ONLY allowed to wear Navy Blue outerwear or YACS embroidered sweaters.

Teaching and Learning Updates
All 7th and 8th grade students are required to participate in this year’s YACS Science Fair. Please look for a parent letter and project directions coming home from your Creative Learner’s science teacher. The final project is due Tuesday, January 18. The project is also open to interested 6th graders and high school students. Please reach out to your Learner’s science teacher with any questions.

While the holidays can be a time of joy and celebration, they can also bring about mixed emotions. If you’re feeling down or in need this holiday season, here is a resource for support. And theNational Suicide Prevention Lifeline #1-800-273-8255. They have counselors on call 24/7.
 

Health and Wellness Tip of the Week
As we anticipate spending the holidays with family members, we all must continue to practice safe COVID-19 guidelines. Listed below are COVID-19 related signs and symptoms to monitor for. Happy Thanksgiving!
Watch for Symptoms


People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Anyone can have mild to severe symptoms. This list does not include all possible symptoms.
 People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea

Student COVID Testing
Each Thursday YACS is offering weekly optional on-campus COVID testing for all students.  All participating learners must register.  Learners that enroll and participate in the testing program will receive $25 for their first test and $10 for each additional test. Special Events and Activities
Dress Down Fridays will take on a Holiday theme. Students do not have to dress down in Holiday attire in order to participate in dress down. It is optional. The students now have three options in which they can participate:
1.      Pay the $1
2.      Donate a canned good or non-perishable item to be given to the Gretna Food Bank
3.      Donate a toy for the Toys for Tots Drive
Below is the flyer that highlights the themes for the Holiday Dress Down. Flyers are also being placed around the building highlighting those themes but please let students know they have other options besides the $1 donation in which they can participate in Friday Dress Down

Fine and Performing Arts Creative Learner Sweatshirt Order Form
The Arts Department is selling Hoodies and would love it if you can support by purchasing one.  If you would like to update your YA swag, click on the link below and fill out the form.  Ms. White will collect money from 12/8-12/17.  Hoodies will be ready for pick up when we return from Winter break.

Technology Pick-up
Chromebook distribution will take place Monday- Friday between the hours of 8:00 am-10:00 am in the morning and between 1:00 pm- 3:00 pm in the afternoon.  Guardians should send an email to burmaster.tech@yacs.org to set an appointment with the technology team representative.

Gifted and Talented Screenings- Parents who are interested in having their child take the evaluation for Gifted (academics) and/or Talented (Music, Theater, Visual Arts) should contact me at miwha.morrison@yacs.org . Visual Arts screenings will require a portfolio of 8-10 drawings on plain white paper, with the student’s name, age, and date on the back of each drawing. Gifted screenings will require a parent’s permission (via email) to administer a cognitive screening test.
