Highlights

The highlight for me in the month of November was our Diversifying the Curriculum event. Bringing 200 people together for the day, virtually, to reflect/ discuss/ learn/ share best practice always brings me a lot of joy. The shared vision, the collective endeavour and the palpable passion/ purpose for this work was brilliant to see. It was our first virtual conference, and our first big event on a school day, despite Zoom having a blip mid-morning which gave me a few new grey hairs, the event went smoothly and I owe a massive thank you to my wing woman Laila El-Metoui who is the Zoom Queen who made it all happen.

Reflections

I had planned a weekend of self-care post the event as the build up was admin heavy and I was putting in the hours. My sister and I have had a spa weekend planned to celebrate our 40ths for some time, but due to Covid it had kept being deferred. So we headed off to Wiltshire, finally, for the weekend to sweat in saunas, relax in steam rooms and float in jacuzzis. Alas, a few days later we both tested positive for the virus. So the last few weeks have been a bit of a struggle. I am not someone who generally gets ill, I have not had much time off of school as a student or off of work as an adult, and 2 weeks of feeling really rough took me by surprise. I am sending healing vibes to anyone else who has it or who is still recovering. I also want to do a massive shout out of gratitude and love to the friends who have been checking in with me and who have sent me wellbeing gifts - you are very appreciated.

Coaching

I am working my way through the Coactive coaching modules to work towards ICF accreditation as a coach through CTI. Spending 3 days on zoom with a group of strangers as I was trying to kick Covid out of my system was not part of my recovery plan, but as I was in isolation I thought I might as well plough on as otherwise I would need to knock out another weekend in the future when I am feeling 100%. Well despite a rocky start, I am really glad I made myself find the resilience to show up and contribute because we spent a fabulous 3 days developing our coaching tools for supporting clients in finding and strengthening their sense of fulfillment. I have made some lovely contacts and it also helped me get out of my head and back into my heart about the work I do. My passion and my purpose have always been there, but feeling ill and spending a lot of time alone has perhaps made me question things which are actually going really well. If you have some saboteurs to slay - then you know where I am.

Think

I brought my reflections from the course into this month’s #MonthlyWritingChallenge - we will be exploring the theme of ‘Fulfillment’ as I need to process my thinking by writing down everything that resonated from the experience. If you want to get involved then connect with me on Twitter as we have a DM group for the bloggers involved.

Consulting

Adrian McLean and I are collaborating on a piece of work with Natwest Bank to support them in their DEI strategy. We are holding listening spaces for their employees in January to reflect back to the organisation the levels of psychological safety and belonging that people feel in this environment.

Programmes

This month I am launching a new programme for one of my regular clients - NEU. If you are a member and are interested in exploring Ethical Leadership then book a place through their website.

If this theme is of interest then you may also want to check out the MA in Education, Ethics and Leadership that I have developed and am the programme leader for.

The Horizon

I am looking forward to wrapping up work for 2 weeks from December 17th until January 4th - we are off to the Dolomites for a family ski trip and I cannot wait to get into the mountains. So I would like to wish you all a wonderful break and hope you all have a lovely time catching up with family and friends. 2021 has not been an easy year for many and I hope that 2022 brings a lot of positivity for everyone in my network. Start thinking about your One Word for 2022 as I will be sharing mine in the January newsletter.
