DRM for FM in the Heart of Europe
In October, a DRM test in the FM band started in Greater Copenhagen, Denmark. The licence for the test broadcasts was granted in September 2020 and runs until 1st August 2022 but can be extended to 30th August 2023.
The test broadcasts are a collaborative project organised by Open Channel, an independent Danish network operator in Copenhagen, with Canadian Nautel (transmitter), German RFmondial (DRM modulator & measuring instruments) & Fraunhofer IIS (Content server) and Swedish Progira (network planning).
The project is supported by Gospell, NXP, partners in Denmark and other non-DRM Consortium members like Bauer Media (supplying content) and Kathrein (antenna). Read more
Significant Updates and News Unveiled During Pre-IBC DRM Event
The virtual DRM Consortium Pre-IBC 2021 event “Smart Radio Accessible to All” on December 1, showcased some of the practical advances of DRM in various parts of the world. The event sponsored by Nautel, gave participants from across the world a global view of the DRM rollout and transmissions, including a very well received session dedicated to the recent VHF band II test in India.
Consortium members presenting their work with and for DRM included the BBC World Service, supported by Encompass Digital Media Services, Fraunhofer IIS, Nautel, RFmondial, Skyworks, Gospell, Cambridge Consultants and Kintronic Labs. Read more
Skyworks Announces New DRM Product for Automotive Industry

DRM Radios Going Strong in Indian Cars
Radio remains a key feature for car owners and with 28 percent of new cars on the roads in India currently equipped with a DRM digital radio receiver the Indian automotive market has achieved the fastest digital radio adoption. With about five years of sustained sales, today there are more than 4.5 million cars on Indian roads equipped with DRM receivers as a standard. Online German DRM Platform Meeting
The annual meeting of the German digital radio platform “Deutsches DRM Forum” took place virtually on November 17th. The participants represented broadcasters, local regulators, industry, research units and users. Topics included DRM global activities, the DRM SoftRadio app and DRM in India. Read more
