Brown Events & Opportunities

Brown University's department of History of Art and Architecture (HIAA), in collaboration with Native American and Indigenous Studies Initiative (NAISI), is accepting applications for a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in Native American and Indigenous Art/Architecture. The John Hay Library welcomes applications for 2022 Hay Library Undergraduate Research Fellowships. Current Brown first years, sophomores and juniors in all concentrations may apply. The Hay Library Undergraduate Fellowship Program supports original research using the collections at the John Hay Library. Each fellow will be awarded a stipend of $4,000. Applications are due March 4, and require a letter of recommendation from a faculty member familiar with the student’s work. Learn more.

External Events & Opportunities

The Upstander Project is hosting a live, virtual screening of BOUNTY on Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM EST. Join Penobscot Nation Tribal Ambassador Maulian Dana, film participant Dawn Neptune Adams (Penobscot), Upstander Project learning director Mishy Lesser, and Akomawt Educational Initiative's Director of Education and Upstander Project advisor Chris Newell (Passamaquoddy) for a conversation after the film. The RISD Museum is offering a part-time Curatorial Internship in Native American Art for summer 2022! Working with Henry Luce Curatorial Fellow for Native American Art Sháńdíín Brown (Diné), the student will assist with collection inventory and object research. It's for ten weeks and 20 hours a week and a $3,000 honorarium. Applications are due January 28, 2022, at 11:59 pm. Learn more and apply here.

The 2022 Harvard Forest Summer Research Program is now accepting applications from a diverse group of undergraduate students to join an immersive research experience. The 11-week program dates are May 23 to August 5, 2022 which includes a $6,600 stipend, plus full room & board, and travel to/from Harvard Forest. The Indian Arts Research Center (IARC) at the School for Advanced Research (SAR) in Santa Fe, New Mexico is offering two nine-month paid internships for college graduates and emerging museum professionals interested in working with Native American collections. Internships include a salary, housing, book allowance, the cost of one professional conference, and reimbursable travel to and from SAR. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2022. Calls for Proposals
The Center for Language Studies is soliciting papers for its 2022 conference, "Cross-talk: Conversations on Race & Language," taking place February 24-26, 2022. Read more at: Brown University Modern Languages Conference ‘22 Call for Proposals.

The Center for Language Studies is also soliciting undergraduate poster presentations as part of its 2022 conference, "Cross-talk: Conversations on Race & Language." Brown undergraduates who have worked on the topic of language, race, translation or mobility will have the opportunity to present this research or their final project to other conference participants and to their peers in our lunchtime undergraduate poster presentation session on Friday, February 25, 2022. A group of graduate students at Harvard and Brown are organizing an interdisciplinary graduate student conference called Seeding Relations: Beyond Settler Colonial and Racialized Ecologies. The deadline to submit a proposal is January 28, 2022 and the conference will be held March 25-26, 2022 via Zoom. See the CFP below and go to seedingrelations.com.
