The Heart of Christmas

Many of you have heard me say that Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I love it, all of it. The lights, decorated trees, the music, Christmas cookies, giving gifts, even the crowded shopping malls. Well, the crowded malls are not as exciting as they used to be.

There is something about this season that seems almost magical. It is the time of year when the world falls in love and the season to be jolly. It is a time of laughter, family, celebration, and hope. I love every moment of it!

For some, however, the holiday season isn’t easy. Especially this year with so much sickness, isolation, confusion, and loss. It can make the holidays feel lonely and depressive. Families, churches, and communities have been torn apart by covid, political turmoil, and division. I don’t think there has ever been a time when the message of Christmas was needed more.

Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests. Luke 2:14

Jesus brought words with Him that go right to the heart of the Christmas message. Words like joy, peace, love, salvation, healing, and hope. The story of Christmas is the story of a miracle to a world that desperately needed one.

It’s a love story that transcends generations, gender, race, national boundaries, social and economic status. With all we’ve been through the last couple of years, the world needs a good love story and that’s really the message of Christmas.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

Bev and I want to wish you the best Christmas ever! Let it be full of God’s love and grace. Our prayer is that the miracle of Christmas will come alive in you! In the words of Jesus in Matthew 10:8, freely you have received; freely give.

May the words Merry Christmas fill your heart, soul, and dreams!

Standing in hope for a new season,
Dan & Bev
