Valerie Karplus to Launch LEO Initiative at the Scott Institute

Scott Institute to Host First Phase of DOE EnergyTech UP – Feb 24, 1pm ET
Join the Scott Institute for a regional showcase of the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Technology Transitions EnergyTech University Prize (EnergyTech UP). University student teams will compete for a total of $257,500 in cash prizes in March 2022 for successfully identifying a promising energy technology, assessing its market potential, and creating a business plan for commercialization. The City of Pittsburgh was awarded second place in the “Achieving Net Zero” category of the International Climate Challenge Cup for their work with the Marshall Plan for Middle America.

Carnegie Mellon Top PA University Ranked in EPA List of Green Power Universities
CMU has the second-highest green power percentage of all institutions producing 111% of total electricity use, having used ~125M kilowatt-hours of green energy from solar and wind. Read more here.
 
Pandey Introduces an Algorithm to Prevent Power Grid Failures
Amritanshu Pandey, Faculty Affiliate, and a team of CMU researchers created an algorithm to facilitate highly accurate simulations to locate disturbances in the electric grid.
