Build Back Better and EarlyEdU

President Biden’s Plan to Rebuild the Middle Class” through the Build Back Better Act offers opportunities for early education students, faculty, and stakeholders across the EarlyEdU Alliance network.  The $40 billion earmarked for higher education and workforce development investments is portioned across various categories, including:

  • $20 billion in workforce development including $4.6 billion partnership grants and funding for adult education, career, and technical education
  • $550 increase in the maximum Pell Grant award cap
  • $500 million for college retention and completion grants in 2022
  • $10 billion allocated for historically Black colleges and universities, tribal colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving institutions, and other institutions dedicated to serving historically marginalized students

The Build Back Better Act “will invest in practices that help more students complete their degree or credential... It will enable community colleges to train hundreds of thousands of students, create sector-based training opportunities with in-demand training for at least hundreds of thousands of workers, and invest in proven approaches like Registered Apprenticeships and programs to support underserved communities” (The Build Back Better Framework). As Build Back Better works its way through the legislative process, the EarlyEdU Alliance stands ready to support your work to enhance and promote equitable teacher preparation pathways in your state quality improvement and professional development systems. EarlyEdU resources and training can help you and your state partners as you work to create, expand, and implement high-quality early learning opportunities to transform teacher preparation and professional development.
